  • Help!! sudden dash warning lights..."Brakes...workshop!"

    Hey all,

I just had this pop up this morning on the dash.

The chimes started going off, a large red ! appeared, and the traction control / stability control lights, and the ABS lights all came up.

They have remained on, and not reset even when the car was switched off and on several times.

I took it to a skoda workshop at 11;30 this morning, and they were unwilling to plug it in today, and just said come back monday...oh, but dont drive it!

    Great help!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks...

Yikes, I wonder if something has taken out some wiring on one corner
I'm assuming it's the brakes and ABS sensors (which will prevent traction / stability control from functioning)

I could bring a notebook and VCDS cable to Stanwell Park tomorrow if you want?

Hey thanks mate! I actually cant make tomorrow morning now sadly (got something urgent to do in the morning)...which is probably wise too if this has occured...Best to limit driving until it is fixed.
I will get it checked out first thing monday morning.

Thanks so much for the offer though!

Lift the bonnet, check the brake fluid level. If the fluid level is OK and all the brakes still work, its probably just some sensor problem. Have a look at your brake pads.

                  Check the ABS fuses.
The good thing is that the brakes will still be working fine all that has happened is that a sensor somewhere has failed or got some dirt on it and will have most likely disabled the ABS and ESC. Driving the car will not be a problem provided you remember that you have joined the majority of vehicles on the road and have no ABS at the moment.

                      It just went away!

Strange...reckon I should get it plugged in and diagnosed anyway?

Yes, though it will be much easier to troubleshoot when it's there. Sounds like an intermittent hardware fault - something that is hard to find unless it actually happening. Any error will come up in a scan.

Back in the early days three years or so ago there were some people reporting similar intermittent fault warnings. I thing the general consensus was that the brake sensors were picking up dirt or dust that was causing a false reading then when the dirt or dust cleared things went back to normal.
My light came on once after I went through a puddle so I just assumed it was water that caused the problem then as it cleared again quickly.

yes, it hasnt affectexd ABS or traction control...I tested that out on a quiet bit of road....

I will swing by the dealership though and get them to check it under warranty...just to be sure, and to have it documneted "just in case" of a future issue...

Thanks for your feedback again guys!
