Anyone know if this has a benefit? Since I've lowered the wagon it grabs this on speed bumps, and if it does nothing I'll remove it! Can someone help?

its probably on the car for a reason. it wouldn't be there otherwise. remember some European motorways have higher speed limits than ours. it may also be there to protect the fuel tank.
k1w1 they wouldn't waste money on a part if its not needed. skoda IS a low cost car manufacturer afterall

While there might be a reason for the fitment, it might not be relevant to how we use the car. eg: roof rails are there to fit cross bars but if the owner has no items to carry on the roof then the roof rails are pure aesthetics.
Also fog lights (for many), chrome exhaust tips, the weights on the LHR of a fabia, sound system, sunroof, rear spoiler etccarandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic
I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums

As I said earlier and normal highway speeds the go fast stuff is there for looks only. It's called marketing in case you have never heard of it.

the vrs is the premium model. it needs things to set it apart of the base and mid-level models.
so youd be ok paying $40k (around) for a car that looked and handled exactly the same as the base model, but had a 2L turbo diesel or petrol engine? im going to say no.
also, i remember something else hanging down under the car. it may also be for water from the road to divert it around certain areas.

Sure, the VRS has extra bits to differentiate it from the cheaper models but none of these items are necessary for the process of getting from point A to point B. The OPs fuel tank may have some big-arse diffuser on it but it is probably purely cosmetic/aesthetic & has no practical purpose.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

you listed a few items a few posts above that clearly aren't there for aesthetic purposes.

skoda is not going to put cosmetic/aesthic bits under the car.

Purely a guess, but possibly it's for frozen roads that get salted in Europe to minimize the amount of that stuff ending up on the fuel tank.
