  • My poor wounded Skoda

A couple of days ago, the other driver in the family decided to put something heavy and bulky on the back floor of the Skoda. Of course, it moved at the first corner, hit the door and punctured the mesh covering the speaker in the rear door panel. Needless to say, I was very cranky for a day or two!

Checking with the Skoda parts people, it turns out that the mesh cover is in fact part of the entire door trim. Buying a new trim will cost $800 - even that is bit steep for a combined Christmas/Birthday present for me.

Do you think there are any viable options to repair the puncture? It looks more like a tear, about 2cm long. I really would like to get the Skoda back to it's normally excellent condition (yes, it sounds like a 'first world problem', but like everyone else here I really love my car).

Hard to say without seeing it but there are plenty of instant repair type people who work magic on things us mortals think are stuffed.
Here in Melbourne there is a crowd called New Life Vinyl and Leather who do great work. I guess ou need to consult Dr Google for your area.

Another option would be to import the part yourself from one of the European Skoda parts suppliers. Again Dr Google will be your friend.

Most of these crowds are franchises so if you have the local person you will probably get a mobile number. I would ring now if that is what you want to do. You may find somebody who is happy to do the job. The worst is you will get a message saying they are way till whenever.

You could also try the UK Skoda suppliers, you might find it's a lot cheaper to buy one from o/s.

            Re: My poor wounded Skoda

Agree with the other replies here. I have seen a tear in my Camry repaired almost invisibly. Average cost started at sixty bucks up to a couple hundred for major repairs. I have seen entire door trims on eBay and plenty of online wreckers advertising any part you'd like
