Well the RS TDI has ticked over 75K and I've been reading all sorts of stuff about intake oil contamination due to the recirc system and turbo blowby. So I took the valve off the front of the engine intake ( connected to the EGR valve ) and had a look. This is what i found......


So I gave it a quick clean, but didn;t have time to pull the EGR off or the intake to give them a clean also. But I would imagine I need to pull from the Turbo, Intercooler through to the Intake off to give it a full on clean up.
I will then fit up the Provent200 I have ready to fit, this should help with less oil going back through the intake.
To make room to fit the provent I decided to spend a few dollars on a APR Carbonio air intake kit. Fitted it yesterday and now have a stack of room to play with. The intake noise from inside the car is still the same, but wind down the window and you can easily hear the turbo spool and intake noise. Throttle response seems a little cleaner and now that I've driven it about 100-200km's the fuel economy is settling down to be a touch better. I'm still not 100 convinced it's made the RS better, possible placebo effect, but will see how it goes over the coming weeks.

Also I will see how the motor performs after the intake/turbo clean, as it has felt a little sluggish over the pas 6 months compared to when it was newer.
