That's so they dont explode with the low air pressure at Altitude.

Nitrogen doesnt expand and contract like other gases. I dont know exact figures and I'm not interested enough to search it but I know that's the reason for using it.

    Happy Days.

      Dealer Servicing = Disappointing

Nitrogen in aircraft tyres = lower deflation rate (N atoms larger than O2 atoms), reduced risk of explosion when overheated (no O2), and reduced corrosion (no O2)

Nitrogen in car tyres = no useful purpose

        +1
i used to have it in my previous car....years ago. just cause i was younger and at the stage of "modding".
        never again.
        - i can't fill up myself.
        - costs me everytime
        - tyre shops purposely put higher pressures causing tyres to wear out quicker, which then equals to more business for them cause i need to buy new tyres!!!

        never again.
        good old air for me

Large aircraft fly at 10,000 metres at -50c & see temps that would melt mild steel on landing. What's your point?
re: Nitrogen in tyres. I'm on the fence. Whatever floats your boat.

re: rotating tyres. I fall ino the every 7500-15000km camp.

re: alignment. I just had my first done at 105,000km & I haven't lost any tyres due to abnormal wear.

To the OP: You are in Canberra. There are at least 2 very good VW specialists in that area. You also have one of the best suspension specialists as well. I'd suggest you make use of them & visit the dealership only for essential work. You will find their names in the recomended suppliers section of the forum.

Perhaps you missed the implied subtlety and have to have it explained syllable by syllable.

Having your car tyres inflated by nitrogen implies your vehicle is somehow associated with high speed aircraft. Which is of course a complete wank and is totally pointless.

Excessive sublety not detected at this time of day.

Fair comment. But I was typing out the post on my keyboard really slowly at the time.

I was thinking much slower than you were typing

Here are some updates. Spoke to the service manager by phone in the morning, and of course you can never reach service manager by first call, anyway he called back, no apologies, just ask me to take the car back. I said I don't have time to do that, he went that's the only way to solve this issue. Alright, asked for leaving earlier in the afternoon, took the car back, met the guy on the phone, no apologies again. They don't feel anything wrong with the case at all from beginning to the end.

They guy asked me to sign another worksheet so they can start the job. There were two items, rotate the wheels and free wash of the car. I felt a little better to see the second line. After 30 mins, went back to the workshop, the guy said your car is ready to go. I took key went to the car, the car is not washed at all. I felt pissed off again and went back said where is my bloody free car wash???? The guy said there is no such thing, I need to pay for the wash. I said it was on the paper I just signed 30 mins ago, I can read f**king English. Seriously, I totally give up to this service department. Yes, they finally washed my car, but question is will I or my family be returning to this service department for future business?

By the way, the sales man in Lennock Skoda is such a nice bloke, he will do everything he could to keep customer happy. Obviously this is not the standard customer service across the dealership. I will buy another Skoda from him though in the future, but will service somewhere else.

Last time I took my car in for service I arrived back after they had finished the work and before they had washed it. Having the dealer wash the car doesn't worry me because I know why they do it so I said I'll go now. They wouldn't let me and insisted that I wait because they didn't want a dirty car leaving their premises.

Fair enough...you must had bad experience with him. Can't say much about this, but as I said earlier in this post, it is sad that there is only one Skoda dealership in Canberra.

If you guys want to drive down to Moss Vale for the day for a service, I can't recommend Allan Mackay Auto's enough.

Phil, the sales bloke, is a great guy.
Everyone in the service department is simply fantastic.
My 15,000k service was roughly $360 there, but that includes the free wash and they actually do a really good job. I can't recall how much the 30,000k was... But I'll let you guys know about the 45.
Its booked for the 20th. Car has 46.4k on it now.

                                Dealer Servicing = Disappointing

Called into South Yarra Volkswagen today as my oil light came on, explained it and within 10 mins service guys put new oil in and sent me on my way....no charge....

Never been there before, didn't purchase car there....not even close for servicing but based on this experience wanted to share with others who might be local.

                                Cheers,
                                Andrew
