Yep Richmond Skoda topped up mine for nothing a few times. For convenience sake I bought a 5L carton of oil and 4 yrs later still have most of it. It was only recently that I had to add any in years so suspect my wifes heavy foot and not waiting for warm up are to do with it. She is always running late each morning and flooring it up the street.

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

My diesel vRS has just hit 45,000km... The 45,000km service is booked for the 20th of December, so I'll probably be up around 48,000km before it actually happens.
Will get the dealership to check the oil level before they remove the old stuff, and I'll let you blokes (and ladies) know!2012 Octavia vRS TDI. Darkside big turbo, 3bar tune, other stuff. 200kW/650Nm.

Petrol engines prior to the 15,000klm service are the worst for it. Last I read, VW were saying 1L/2,000klms was acceptable. Anything more than that required further investigation. Also worth noting, the oil consumption test is at cost to the CUSTOMER, until proven it is proven that the oil consumption is too high. At which point, the customer will be reimbursed.
My tip? Don't drive like a Granny or do short stop-start trips early on in the car's life.'07 Transporter 1.9 TDI

The high oil consumption of some VW engines been known for many years and discussed many times on the net. For some of their engines its entirely normal to use 2l per 5000 k or so. It doesn't indicate there is anything wrong with the engine.
A lot of people report that they reduced their consumption by using different oil. It would be interesting to know what oil people are using.MY2014 Skoda Octavia Ambition Plus Wagon, DSG, Capuccino, Tech Pack

Surely checking the dipstick is less work than driving to the dealer, waiting in line at the service desk, and then waiting for them to check your car (and probably say things about you behind your back)...
