Anyone ever stalled an auto?

Weird thing happened to me on the weekend...My DSG RS stalled on me!

Here's what happened:
Started her up, warmed the engine up for a couple of minutes, flipped the air-con on, drove out of a carpark then stalled it taking off from the lights! I had to chuck it in park, start it up again and I was good to go.
Just to be clear I wasn't thrashing it and yes it was in Drive.

Has this ever happened to anyone? It kinda freaked me out.
The car has only done 45k and I treat her pretty good, so there's no reason why this should happen.

i have heard of them falling into "neutral" when confused, but not actually stalling.
strange i must say.
where u stopped, then taking off? or creeping slowly before taking off?

I've known people to stall a regular auto, usually when not accelerating enough on a hill or something....

Both my RS and my 90TSI have stalled before (both DSG's). On my way home from work there is a stop sign on a slight decline and it confuses the DSG everyday, no matter how I pull up to the intersection. It just can't figure out what gear to be in when I release the brake and usually just slips into neutral - it's a great feeling when you roll out into oncoming traffic... It only stalled one time when I wasn't paying attention.
The stalling situation must have something to do with the gradient sensor, because my other Octavia has stalled a few times when driving up car park ramps (although I'm sure it has a lot to do with my partners driving style - having never driven a manual before!)

I'll say it again though, it definitely helps if you've driven manual. This is my first "auto" and I can live with these quirks; once you get moving the DSG's are the best in the business.

I've stalled mine by forgetting to release the handbrake. Like ausspace87 mine has a little moment on a decline. I go up a slight incline, and turn left down a reasonably steep decline. As I approach the turn the DSG downshifts, then starts to upshift when the power comes back on. By this time I'm on the steep incline, and it's like the box is computing that the throttle position is increasing, but gradient has rapidly changed, so it momentarily neutralises (1-1.5 seconds at most) before picking up the correct gear.

i normally do carparks in manual mode.
even still, if in drive, i haven't exeperienced those quirky behaviours u guys mention.

mine does "i'm going to stall" when going from reverse into drive. it doesn't, but u can hear it thinking about it.

weird, ive never had any of that with mine. I can be going uphill, let my foot off the brake and the car sounds like its going to stall, but ups the RPM and slowly moves off. same with reverse

you have 45k on the clock, maybe your TB has oil deposits or something in the intake?

You can stall a conventoinal automatic or a DSG if the idle speed is set too low. As soon as the car tries to move off, the engine can stall if the torque required is not sufficient at the engine speed. Also, if the fuel delivered is too much in a petrol engine (not so much of an issue with a diesel), it is possible for the engine to stall .

It is not common, so the first thing to do is check the idle speed and make sure it is not too low. If that is OK and it keeps doing it, then it could be an issue with the controller that brings in the clutch. It may be trying to engage too quickly.

I'd come to a stop on an even surface, so it wasn't a gradient issue, but revs were low when I released my foot from the brake and the to the gas. But good to know that it's not a freak occurrence otherwise I'd be getting worried.

I was thinking it may have something to do with that DSG remap that I've seen mentioned in other posts. I haven't have it done under warranty, but I think I may toke it in and get it remapped.

dont take this the wrong way, but perhaps you should have any potential problems fixed before modding the car any further which may make your current issue worse. just saying

I've had our DSG stall 4 or 5 times in the last year (after coming to a stop). I asked them to look at it at the 45k service and they said they had done a firmware upgrade to sort it out. Its only been a few weeks, so I can't say if its fixed or not. *shrug*

Yeah, I think I'll take it in and get the firmware upgrade installed before I even think of throwing on any more mods.
