Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Updated maps February 2013

VAG called me today as I had made some noise about the incorrect 120km/h speed limits for Australian freeways.. They seemed to be blaming whereis maps, certainly not their fault, which I don't buy as only VAG have this issue..

However the important part is they assured me many customers have complained from all over Australia and the update will be available from dealers (for free) from around February next year..

    I guess time will tell

Will be interested to see if the free maps deal will be offered to everyone or only if you got a factory fitted nav unit.

They said it was mainly because you have the current maps which have a fault, so they can't charge to 'fix' them, I assume the maps in general will be newer along with the fix.

Dealer may attempt to charge, i guess, but apparently they will be instructed not to..

Only need one member to get the disc and upload

Speed limits are constantly being altered (read: decreased) anyway so it's not a feature I'd be able to fully trust especially with how slow we get these updates. I've had the speed limit feature turned off anyway.

True I think the problem was, for say Victoria, there are no roads that are 120km/h , yet every 100 and 110 road in the state was showing as 120, so pretty obvious error..

You're right though you can never fully trust it..

Great thing with my last car was it had Tom Tom built in, and you could make the change yourself in your own car and then also send it to them for approval, they did updates quarterly too...

Well hopefully the free update includes new maps too, a win for all then...

Seems to be the fastest way to get someone knowledgeable to talk to you..

Though there are a few people on there that posted problems and got help, I am one..

It was funny on the website I signed up for a test dive and no response at all in over two weeks. Posted on facebook and was called in two days.. Though in the end the dealer didn't have a scout to test drive, I just drove the regular diesel, similar enough.

I guess spending almost 50k on a pretty high spec'ed Octavia my expectations are high.. Got stuffed around a bit in the purchase process too which got my back up..

Seems to be normal when buying a VW/Skoda. I have bought 3 in the last 5 years and only once was it a good experience. Worst thing is that it does not seem to matter which dealer you go to.

                      +1
I was in the same boat. Signed up on the both the main and dealer site and got no responses. Then had a terrible experience when I visited a dealer. I was contacted after I posted on fb and was told that they had some issues with changing servers. Then I saw your similar issue with the web request and wondered if they'd really fixed the problem.

                        My purchase experience was perfect.
I honestly don't know how it could have gone better.
The sales rep (Phil @ Allan Mackays Moss Vale) even listened to my ramblings and stupid questions, answering what he knew and being upfront about what he didn't.
Probably why there's so many Octavia's puttering around locally, compared to this time last year!

Odds are there have to be some decent dealers out there..

I have bought Renault and Hyundai also in last few years and much better overall experience.. Dealers knew what the cars included, no stuffing around, changed specs (I was called twice to accept changed specs and price) or price gouging on five year warranty as both provided standard.

Salesman himself was friendly enough at my dealer though, only things I can fault him on personally were blaming no bank cheque policy on skoda (but he was new so maybe he was just told that) and trying to convince me the 4x4 system was 60/40 full time..

                              Who cares.
If VW were silly enough to try to charge a quick word with A Current Affair or one of the other gutter programs would see "Global car giant rips of Aussie motorists in road safety bungle" splashed across TV screens all over the country.
Combine that with an appropriate Facebook page with thousands of supporters all bitching and VW would back pedal faster than a federal politician after an election.
