  • Does anyone know what this plug is for?

I was washing the car yesterday and while clearing a couple of bugs from the radiator, I noticed a plug just "dangling" behind the front grill. I couldn't see an obvious place for it. Does anyone else have it just hanging there?

The housing looks like it should clip into a hole, and it looks like a sensor in it???

It looks like it comes from near the LED daytime running lights. I am thinking maybe an obsolete plug in the wiring harness for a different model?

Is that the hose for the headlight washers?

Or maybe it's some kind of outside temperature probe.

Definitely looks like a headlight washer plug. I just replaced one. Of you have washers you wll need to remove which side headlight it's on to be able to plug the hose back into the end of the washer jet assembly.
If you don't have washers there will be another one on the other side of the car.

Its the outside air temp probe. Same part nearly, going all the way back to MK1 Golf GTIs. Cant advise where it should go though. Most I have seen point forward and click into the lower grille somewhere.

That makes sense. I'm going to try and find my one now.

Thanks - I was looking at that yesterday on my Yeti and wondering what it did.

              Outside temp probe.

Stick your arm down between the radiator and the front brace, and feel for the huge bit of metal sticking down out the front.
Alternatively, if you have an LED light, put that on the floor of the bumper (on the inside) and then look through the honeycomb at the front for where it goes. Its quite obvious - at the centre of the lower honeycomb grille, slightly offset to the right.

Sauce: Have taken my front bumper off and had a look.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Temp probe makes sense.

Not sure how or why it has come loose but will clip it back in tonight. If it has been sitting close to the radiator, I have possibly been seeing a higher than actual outside temp!

Its extremely easy to clip on and off.
It coming out is no issue, since its so easy to just put back in!!
