What is my Octavia RS worth?

2 cars sold on carsales, both sold within 2 weeks of advertising, and not less that $200 off the advertised price on one of them. The other went for the advertised price. I have to admit, both cars were very well maintained and kept very neat and tidy. That's the trick, I think to getting close to what you want for it.

I read this thread with interest as my car is pretty much exactly the same. I have a pre-fl car, 07 build, late 08 compliance, petrol wagon rs, yellow with front parking sensors, exceptional condition full service and only 41k on the clock. Same purchase scenario, great price originally.
I was offered 12k 1 year ago from a couple of dealers as a trade when the car had 33k on the clock! I was absolutely stunned. The car is pampered and I am still astounded there are no dints. I just walked from both as the offer was simply insulting. Im still in the car, still enjoy it and am now glad I did not allow myself to get bent over by dealers who were not serious about selling.2006 VW Golf GTI Silver Mk5 5dr manual no options (the way nature intended) SOLD
2012 Skoda Octavis RS wagon, race blue, red stitch interior, DSG SOLD
2008 Skoda Octavia vRS Wagon (Mk II, pre-FL) 2.0 TFSI 147Kw 6 MT bright yellow SOLD
Other: 2013 Mercedes B250 Sliver Command Pack panoramic roof

Well i went to Sydeny today and bought the car. Up to now negotiations have been done over the phone and so the actual numbers have been theroetical and not based on their valuer seeing the car. So when it came time to do the negitation face to face things got protracted. Really, they didn't want my car and would have preferred i sold it privately. i haven't the time or the need to do that, its acompany car so any sale over book figure of around $9k is subject to tax, I am travelling regularly for the next couple of months and I haven't the time or motivation to detail it. For them, a Skoda, in yellow, and being a manual meant it could sell quickly, or being impossible to shift.
Its a little hard to put a specific figure on it because of the way the numbers are worked. Roughly speaking i bought a a 3000km old Superb V6 wagon in brand new condition for $42k (plus ACT onroads - almost $3k), against a trade-in of a bit more than $13k.. New, it is almost 62k plus onraods.
I am happy with the deal as the V6 wagon is a great car with loads of kit, and i only paid $30k for the vRS 3.5 years ago with the big dollar extras and 7,000kms on the clock. Mind you, I would be pissed off with the resale if I have paid anything like the retail price of $49k originally.
Can't wait to pick it up next wekend.

I priced my car sale based on the other cars selling on carsales at the time (and checked against redbook), so they couldn't have been underpriced. But as others have said, they were very well kept cars and immaculately detailed at the time of sale. But I'm prepared to do that if I get the car sold quickly and at the price that I think is fair to me.......not giving money to a dealer for no reason.

I have worked in used cars, and understand the risk/return equation they operate on and the way private buyers operate too having bought and sold lots of cars. Almost no-one wants manuals in Sydney these days, or Canbberra much either. Used car sales are slow as most people can afford to buy new, and there is amazing value and choice available new today. The net dominates used car sales, whether private or dealer. Even after driving it and acknowledging what a great car it is, few of my friends have been willing to seriousyl consider a Skoda when they are buying a new car.
This will change over the next 10 years as Skoda builds presence, but for now, Skodas are to valuers and buyers what washing and room tidying is to my teenage son - incomprehensible and irrelevant.
Sad really.

Actually, at 90,000km on the clock for $18k, I think I paid a little too much, but it was the car I wanted.
I'd be pretty happy to pay 20k for a used vrs.'07 Touareg V6 TDI with air suspension

I have been buying cars from Lennocks for myself and others since 1989 and have had good service and become friendly with several people there including Mike Cornock. They have serviced my cars including the vRS and will service the Superb - no complaints there. But this individual is something else and has caused Lennocks to lose at least 3 sales that I have been associated with to interestate dealers.
And its not me - i make an effort to get on with people and normally do, even car salspeople when I am negotiating a tough deal.
I loved the V6 and DSG combo. Plenty of grunt throughout the range. If I get rich I might get an exhaust on it like Canberra vRS. The equipment level is amazing for th emoney and it has a great feel f luxury and solidity. I can't wait to throw it at a twisty road - I do't think it will be a tightly tied down and precise as the vRS but i suspect it will be even quicker through bends.

Dealers hold the view that used manual cars are difficult to shift, so they either aren't interested in them, or they want a huge margin to justify their holding time. Used manual Skodas are even less appealing to dealers. Not even Skoda dealers wanted my MY11 RS 147TSI manual wagon when I contemplated buying it off the lease company recently. It was 18 months old and mint, but still held no interest with the trade. In the end I handed it back and it was auctioned by Pickles last week. No idea what it sold for, but they estimated $20-23k! I suspect someone got a bargain.
A few weeks ago I bought a private sale '08 RS sedan, yellow, sunroof, 46kms, immaculate for $16,200. It was originally advertised at $18,500. Right after I bought it a guy in Melbourne advertised a fully loaded RS of the same vintage for $22k. He's now dropped his asking price below $20. I don't think any preFL RS is worth more than $18-19k in this market, especially not when you can get an MY11 for well below $30.now: 2008 Octavia RS TSI manual sedan, yellow, Stage 1 tune, 185kw.

Anyway, cars are just an opportunity to tear up money, but i can't face the idea of buying a five year old Commodore and driving it until it drops, whic is th eonly way to not waste much.
So a depreciating Skoda it is for me!

Enjoy the new car!!
Yes, you are correct too...we have to look at the bigger picture...not just the individual pricing.
The magic words are "changeover figure". So if you bought for a low price, you will sell for a low price, but the gap is still the same.
If you buy for a higher price initially, then you will want more for the sale...but how much actually left your bank is the point.2018 Ralyee Green RS wagon. Fully optioned.

I was looking at trading my 2007 RS wagon on a Yeti at Peninsula Skoda in Victoria. My car has 120000km on it, has always been serviced ( not always by Skoda) and while not perfect is neat and tidy. They offered $7500 and tried to make me feel like it was a good offer. Offering such low trade in values does not make me want to buy another Skoda. I've decided to keep the RS!

I decided quite some time back that my 2007 1.8tsi had depreciated so much that it wasn't worth on-selling. As such, I'll teach my daughter to drive in it in 2013 & (if she's competant) she can take custody of it in 2014. If it survives, #2 daughter can repeat the process in 2017. Given my #2 daughters personality, I doubt the car will see 2019.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic
