Extended Warranty?

Do you guys think it is worthwhile?

What did it costs? believe if you get them before you take possession it costs less than if you get it after a year?

2010 Polo $1749 3 years with Allianz
2011 Passat $1800 3 years with Swann

Both bought later 18 months with Polo 12 months Passat

VW quoted $1500 for 2 years for Passat.

OK thanks, so that was 2 or 3 years extra on the end of a new warranty?

The dealer told me $2000 for 2 years extra on the scout so that turned me off and that was buying upfront.. I won't be servicing there though so will ask afterwards I guess...

All extended warranties start at the end of original warranty

i got it free with my car if i service it during its whole factory warranty 'life' for an extra 2 years on top of the factory 5. however after reading how hopeless the dealer is, i might not bother.

I can get mine serviced where I like at much better than dealer rates so will probably work out cheaper.

There is only a year factory warranty, the extra two yrs are vw Australia, hence the ripoff pricing for any warranty. By comparison Mazda and Honda quite often throw in an extra yr or two and if you pay it's about $400 for another year genuine factory warranty. Skoda only offer Allianz....

Manufactures (Factory) warranties for both my cars are for 3years or 10000km whichever is first.

Extended warranties start on the day that each of them finish

The scout has 3 years unlimited km manufacturer warranty, but your right the extra two years taking it to 5 years is with Allianz...

I think mine is 3 years or 100,000km. (Could be 150,000km, but I doubt its more)
Though, I've used it a little so far...

How many KM does the extended warranty add? By some rough calculations on my part, I'd be hitting 100,000km in 2.5yrs.

In my case it adds two years but remains unlimited km.. But on 100,000 km original warranties they can vary, normally I have seem them going to 150,000 give or take 10,000

So from 2.5 to 3.8yrs, assuming 3,300km/month. That's... Eh. I'll see how it goes during the first 2.5yrs.

I've done 3,000km since wed 17th. Perhaps the 100,000 might come sooner than expected...

I think a few of you misunderstood what I meant. SKoda and AFAIK VAG in Australia only have 1 yr factory warranty, the extra 2 yrs bringing it out to 3 yrs is actually covered by VAG australia. Other companies like Mazda really do have a 3 yr factory warranty. Because of that we get reamed for anything further and they offload it to Allianz whereas other companies haven't already taken a hit. It's swings and roundabouts, but nontheless, it's crap.

Also probably why we haven't seen the extended warranty on the DSG gearboxes as VAG locally will know very well what it will cost them.
