    Yep, it's MQB! The new Octavia is supposedly 4.6 metres long too. While the new grille isn't the prettiest, it's a lot better than the current one...

    The thing that worries me most is that the new Octavia might have a variant with torsion-beam rear suspension like its MQB cousins the Golf 7 and new SEAT Leon. Even my 93' Mazda 323 Astina SP project car has independent rear suspension...

      according to their facebook page - definitely yes. they've said "its all under wraps" and we'll b pleasantly surprised.
      doubt they'll reveal the new octavia. they'll most likely b showing the rapid.

          going backwards IMO........... cutting costs i would imagine. however, the average driver would never notice the difference

          Also, im a BIG fan of the current model shape. many would disagree, but meh, im entitled to my opinion

            Only low powered (<90kw) versions of the Golf get the torsion bar rear suspension. Cuts out cost and weight for those models (1.2tsi and 1.6TDI)

              thats not so bad then. however, why bother? they are manufacturing 2 sets of parts for the same function.

                Apparently the MQB is a lot easier to customize during the assembly process which is how they can make Audis and VWs and Skodas among others on the same line. So I guess another part variation is not too complex. Plus the parts are probably common to all the lower spec variants across the brands.

                  That's why I said the new Octavia might have a VARIANT with torsion-beam suspension, not ALL of them!

                    Here's my 2 cents on what Skoda should (but wont) be doing:
                    Micro = Citigo
                    Small = Fabia
                    Mid-sized = Rapid + 2.0T RS version
                    Large = Octavia
                    Luxury = Supurb
                    Family = Yeti
                    Performance = Tudor (a coupe concept that could be based off the A5 platform)
                    Skoda Tudor Concept wallpaper # 03 of 10, Front Angle, MY 2002, 800x600

                    Wishful thinking, I know... But a man can dream, cant he?!

                    Oh, and leave the push button handbreak off them all! I hate those things!
