Octavia Wagon Tinting

OK, so I know I'm not going to win a Pullitzer for the results my photographic skills, but here are some pics showing the tinting. They were all taken in full sun at the middle of the day.
I threw in one of the sunshade too. They're not cheap. I think the shipping was about the same as the shade, making it around US$65, but in my view it is worth it. I got it from Heatshield, a company in the US that originally made sunshades for aircraft, and now do cars. The material used is much better than anything you'll find in auto shops, can be custom fitted, and you won't find an easier shade to put up, and take down. They were going to send me a pattern kit for me to cut and return to them as a template, but I opted for the Golf VI size. Mrs. BS has one for her Golf VI, and hers fitted good enough in my Octy that I didn't see any need to bother with the pattern kit.

Thats got an aerial on it... FM, I think.
If memory serves me correctly (and it might not, at all) the AM/FM antennae is on the roof, and the FM/TP antennae is on the window.
And I think the TV antennae goes on the opposite side.
*think*

I've looked into retrofitting the factory unit - approx. AU$2,100.

This is the 4th car Albert has tinted for me, and a replacement passenger side glass thanks to a low life who tried a smash and grab on Mrs BS, but hadn't factored in that I was just about back to the her car, which resulted in him spending some time at Redfern Police Station after having been seen to at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Hey BS, just double checking......you did get the Johnson Insulatir? Which VLT did you get, the 30 or the 40 (Johnson don't make a VLT 35).
The reason why I'm asking is that I went to the tint place today to book my car in next week and the owner said that the Johnson Insulatir being an IR (Infared film) will be very light, even at the VLT30, but I told him I'd seen your pics and commented on how dark I thought it looked?? Anyway, he's getting in some samples of the VLT30 and 40 early next week for me to look at and compare to his normal carbon tints he uses (which BTW look exceptionally dark installed on cars as he showed me one that he'd just finished).
Thanks.

Any suggestions for Brisbane businesses would be really appreciated. Unfortunately went to the well known retailer (the one with big $ advertising) and after taking it back 3 times, they were unable to correct what they describe as an acceptable number of "points" under the film. I would describe them as hairs/foreign matter. They said they had a similar problem with a VW and that it is "wicking" of the felt window wiper fibres into the water under the film when the film is installed. Sounds like BS to me - never had such a poor job.Redline3345 MY11 Octavia vRS Wagon TSI DSG | Brilliant Silver | Milltek cat back exhaust | Bilstein PSS10 | TSR Panorama | Remsa | Leather | Sunroof | Towbar | Front Sensors | Boot Protector | Xenons | Corner Fogs | Alarm | Extended Warranty | Superskoda Bits & Bling

Albert at the same Autoglass company in Campsie did my Superb sedan with Johnson Insulatir VLT30, which combined with the factory glass tint bring you up to the 35%maximum legal tint allowed in NSW. 298, done in 3 hours at their workshop while I waited.
I've definitely noticed the increased burn on my old sun damaged arms since summer started to come our way. I've had the Superb since April, after swapping to it from a ford xr8. One things ford did years ago was include UV filter in the glass of such cars, especially the windscreen. One still had to get tinting done to reduce heat though. The insulatir 30 tint is very effective in my view & dark enough. Skoda really ought to think about putting UV filtering in their glass for cars sold in Australia, imho.
While I was there, I noticed they were doing tint on a prime mover. The driver told me he'd had a job done by an ad he saw on Gumtree; mobile number, come to you job. He said it was terrible & started peeling away during his first long haul. Needless to say, the mobile number wouldn't respond. Good reason for getting it done by a place with an address & history.Last edited by 2009fsi; 30-10-2012, 11:40 PM.
