Looks great cbay! Just out of curiosity, where did you take those pictures (particularly the middle one)? Looks like Macquarie University to me but I am special .

OK, seeing as I started this thread a while ago, I just thought I would see if there is anyone in Melbourne who would be willing to swap their black roof rails for my as new, unused silver ones. I'll come to you and we should be able to do the swap in a few minutes for each car.

If no one wants to, that's ok, I'll wrap them in matte black vinyl, but I would prefer a clean and simple swap.

PM or reply here if you're interested.

              looking good.

Chrome suits the silver car and black suits the blue. Should have come this way from factory

                agreed!

someone should design some covers to remove the roof racks completely. or just buy the sedan, it doesn't have them

Has anyone put the low profile rail mounted roof racks (such as whisbar) on the rails and have a sunroof? Does the sunroof hit the low profile rail mounted roof racks when popped up?

Ok, I might be barking up the wrong (and very old tree), but I sm still hoping to find someone in Melbourne who is interested in changing the roof rails on their 77tdi or 90tsi wagon from silver to black.

Even if there is anyone interstate who is willing to pack and ship we can make the swap quick and simple.

I have looked at simply buying a set of black rails but 2 dealers have told me they would have to import them at a cost of 'around or over $400). For a simple colour change, that's just dumb.

I have also considered black plasti dip and vinyl wrapping but I may have roof racks on at times and that simply wouldn't stand up.

My rails are in perfect condition and I am hoping to find some in similarly good nick.

Perhaps try a dealership - see if they wanna swap some on a 77/90 they have in stock? Just to make it look a little less base-model!

                        Yeah, tried that one too!

They said that it would have had to be done when it was new and even though mine are in perfect condition, they are not right for a new car.

My next option is to approach strangers in the street with Octavias and asking if they want to swap!

Powder coating? It should stand up to roof racks.

The problem is that best as I can tell, they are mostly plastic. I thought powder coating only worked on metallic surfaces.

Pretty sure the main body is metal.
