Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Used Octavia 118TSI - need help

    Hi Guys..
friend of mine considering 2010 octavia 118tsi dsg..just few quick questions if someone with skoda can help..

    1. any issues to be aware of with 118 DSG as he will be using the car for long..
    2. How much extra 3 yr warranty would cost?
    3. is the engine tunable just in case need more power down the track?

    thanks in advance

Get a competent VW/Audi/Skoda independent to look over the car and do a diagnostic readout, as always.

Some were used as rentals - check the history.

DSG can give problems, but not necessarily - see first point.

Haven't seen a 3 year warranty, but 2 year seems to be about $1,800 or so.

Make sure your friend is aware of servicing costs...

I would self insure for that price. Put the $1800 in a dedicated interest bearing bank account and leave it there. The overwhelming odds will be that two years later you will still have $1800 plus interest in the account.

        1. Yes there are definite issues out there with some 7-spd DSG boxes (forums are full of owners with such issues) but it's a bit of a lottery because there are seemingly plenty of happy owners out there with these same boxes too.

        2. I agree with Kiwi, keep your cash in your pocket and use it to cover your own costs IF they arise.

        3. Yes it sure is!
