Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Firewall Grommet

    Hey, all.

I remember seeing somewhere that someone had run some wiring for an amp through the firewall into the cab... I can't find the post (yes, tried searching) and was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction.

Either that, or provide a full write-up on how to get to it.
I've tried looking around under the dash, but can't find anything.
I want to run the lines for removable UHF and 3G aerials, for those long drives and for work (Lots of remote places), but I can't find anything about it.

Did you try looking at the firewall from the engine side? You may be able to see where wires come through from there.

It's sewn up tighter than a nuns whatsit under there. What about drilling a new hole?

There should be a harness that passes through the firewall on top of the left front chassis rail. The grommet should be big enough to share with the wiring you're passing through there.

PM me if you get stuck. I'm local to you.

            Cheers, gldgti!!

Would it be possible for you to post a couple of pics, from the engine compartment side?
I have to run the wire from the front into the cab, cause it doesn't detach at the other end. >.<

            Thanks, Umai.
I'll let you know when I'm actually hooking the gear up to the vehicle.

Have you attempted to examine the firewall from the engine side? You may be able to see where wires enter from that location. geometry dash
