Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Octavia RS wheel info needed for online purchasing

    Hi folks,

I'm planning on upgrading my mkv gti to a current model octavia rs at the end of the year (given my first-born is in the 'oven'), and plan on performing the following upgrades:

APR Stage 1 tune (same as the golf currently)
    Carbonio CAI (tentatively)
V713 or similiar wheels (i know, done to death

I have the following queries to begin with:

What specifiations would be safe to select for wheels being ordered online? (i'm looking at 17" or 18" wheels)
Are people getting goods shipped from door to door, or to the airport commonly?
Are there brands to avoid? Brands to recommend?
Is tirerack still the going choice?

I tried taking a look at tirerack but, possibly my silliness, I cant see prices etc unless I have preselected a car model, and they don't have skodas listed... I have checked out prices at Velocity and Performance Alloys, so far so good.

Thanks for any help provided, very new to this!

Because the Octavia share pretty much the same underpinnings, brakes, engine, tranny etc etc etc, its safe to use your mkV as a reference. So far with all my purchases for my RS, I've used the mkV gti as a reference for online and instore shopping (all except for the exhuast systems due to the differences in length and position of spare wheel and the exhaust piping differences b/w the octy and the golf hatchback. Hope this helps mate.
I too was looking at VMR wheels a while back but ended up settling for exact lookalikes here in OZ. Basically save on shipping.
Best of luck mate and happy shopping

Thanks mate, makes it alot easier! May I finally ask who the seller was for your wheels?

Someone from Skoda AU let me know that there'll be some kind of factory upgrade too, effective in August.
