Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

If you need 7 seats try a new Citroen C4 Picasso. You'll pay less than $40k and it's got the Citreon/Peugeot/Ford 2.0l TDi 120kw motor. The 3rd row seats take adults and the front is a vey nice place to sit with the big windscreen. Just lease it for 3 years though and more it on afterwards as reliability maybe an issue.Octavia vRS Tractor Motor DSG Kombi

We have the 2TDI (Oettinger reflash) Elegance wagon with 3 booster/baby seats across the back and an older '05 Multivan 2.5 TDI. We see about 8 and 9 L/100km respectively for short trips around town.
Highly recommend the Multivan. Amazingly easy to park and see out of. Kids and missus love it as there is plenty of room, and the footprint is not that much bigger than the Octavia. The Multivan is extremely versitile as all passenger seats are on rails (or can be removed). Have a look, you might be suprised.2010 Tiguan 125TSI

True about the footprint - if you want value for sheer cubic metres, you cant go past a transporter variant of some kind. Last weekend my folks came and stayed with us, they have a T4 2.5TDI caravelle. I let them park it where the octavia usually goes in my carport, behind the mk1. Sure enough, the wheelbase is only about 100mm longer, and the whole thing (shorter overhangs) is pretty much the same. A little wider but still OK.
Couple with that that it drives like a good car, still gets 8-9l/100km, sits you high up so you feel like the king himself - they are hard to look past for sheer practicality. AND the considerable ground clearance makes them great on logging tracks/out in the bush - even without 4-motion.
Ha, why don't I have one'07 Touareg V6 TDI with air suspension
