If halogens, buy a new one for $5 and swap it out, see what happens. If it now works, then you can go ahead and change the other one, and all is well.
If not, then it might be time for a visit to the dealership service department.

Ended up booking it in to be looked at by the dealership tomorrow so that I don't have to worry about trying to figure it out by the long weekend.
Will be interesting to find out the cause - if its a relay as another poster suggested, hopefully its covered by warranty.
*sigh* - whilst I like my car but not having a good run with skoda atm
