I was putting some front mud flaps on my Octavia and discovered a potential cause of rust. If you unscrew the 4 torx screws that hold the wheel well liner on (where the mudflap mounts) there was about a cupful each side of leaves, stones and dust behind it. Must have fallen down the plenum chambers. These are the route for stuff that falls down where the windscreen wipers are. Don't scratch too hard as there is protective wax in there too.
