Since you've been offered a refund or a good deal on another Scout the answer is very simple - how much do you want a sunroof? This is the deal maker or breaker for you. For me, there's no resale advantage so it is dead money. Comes down to how much amenity you feel you'll lose by not having it. Never owned a car with one but driven plenty. Kinda nice but TBH wouldn't sway my decision either way. But I'm not you.

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

11 months order to delivery. Is it a deal breaker?

That's really odd though special order or not, an order in NOv should still be built in the first half of the next year unless its like the panoramic sunroofs which had delays for ages...July is basically a MY13 build car and the specs might be different.

There's a top-grade Scout diesel at Allan Mackay's Moss Vale (to the best of my knowledge, its been a week or so since I went there last)
Just, it has an auto box. :/2012 Octavia vRS TDI. Darkside big turbo, 3bar tune, other stuff. 200kW/650Nm.
1990 Mk1 Cabrio. 1.9 IDI w/ 18PSI.
1985 Mazda T3500 adventuremobile. 1973 Superbug. 1972 Volvo 144 in poo-brown.
Not including hers...

Hi mrichards, we just got a humble Octavia wagon and saw 3 Scouts at the dealers in Sydney, can't you knock 'em down on a demonstrator? In our experience they're adding new meaning to the word 'deep' discountsBeing ex (owned 4) Subaru I'd have loved the 4WD Scout btw

Sounds like your dealer is very flexible and is willing to negotiate, even give you full refund of the deposit. I would consider seriously on a stock car with heavy discounts. Buying a car is not just getting it cheap, but also the after sale service. I've been looked after very well by my dealer even after delivery, which makes the whole experience very pleasant despite I had a glitch in my new car.
So ask yourself, do you really need the sunroof? Do you really need the 4x4 for off roads? Would you consider any other models (eg. a Superb Wagon 4x4, or a Yeti TDI)? Skoda makes very good cars. It would be a shame for you to consider other marque. I can't seen to find another marque in the market that offer what Skodas can offer. ie. German engineering, Japanese quality and reliability, Euro handling, and (almost) Korean price.

We are in the situation where we are now looking at what other stock is available and weighing up our options. Initially we weren't looking at the Superb due to budget restraints and I prefered the Scout over the Yeti. Still do.
We're now looking to see how a premium Scout might fit into how much we can spend, it (the premium spec) wasn't on the radar 4 months ago, again due to budget, but we now have to factor time vs dollars. The sunroof and 4WD are important, just don't ask me to quantify.
The hard part is that we've been thinking of a fairly specific car being made and that has (pretty much) all changed.
I really appreciate all the remarks and responses - hearing different opinions helps put things in perspective.
Thanks

Some of the models listed are not for AUS market.

this discussion is about mrichards facing very very long delays on a scout he'd like to order from factory.
that being the case, i put up a list that tables delays worldwide, across differnt manufacturers, with the scout listed as amongst the top 3.
how does this make the list out of context then?
i never stated the list was for the aus market. skoda doesn't build for just the aus market only, they build for the "world".
if u can find a list of manufacturer delays specific for just the aus market.....b my guest.
if it makes no sense...pls don't read.Last edited by dArK5HaD0w; 01-03-2012, 08:56 PM.MY17 Superb 162TSI, Business Grey, Tech+Comfort Pack, APR ECU+TCU Stg 1, SLA, Rieger Splitter + Side Skirts, Eibach Pro-Kit Springs, Hardrace Swaybar, TPMS

No that is not correct at all and that is an awfully patronising way to talk about other people in an open forum. It's totally meaningless unless it's explained and the source is referenced. For all we know it might relate to vehicle sales in Botswana. If you are going to post this sort of thing you MUST say where the source is and what the chart relates to. What is "early last year"? Is is January 2011 (last calendar year) or September 2010 (which is early last model year)?Last edited by K1W1; 02-03-2012, 10:24 AM.

What I meant was a bit of research into where it came from might have been more helpful than saying its "a waste of space" and slamming the poor guy. If that wasn't a patronising statement I don't know what it was, he didn't even get a chance to respond.
Yes he could have put more info about it, but in the meantime there was nothing stopping anyone else looking for it instead of coming down on him like a tonne of bricks about it.
