  • New 90tsi owner :)

Hi guys, I finally bit the bullet and traded in my old A4 for a shiny new 90tsi Octy wagon in Platin Grey.

Although not in VRS guise like many of you, it's the best value family hauler that suits my needs and that I can afford right now. It's been a week and I'm loving it!

    bye audi...

hi octy! (unfortunately not the awesome blue RS)

Welcome cbay! We aren't all vRS drivers. I have a 77TDI. I like to think the lower models are the 'real' Skodas. After all, overseas they are the volume sellers in what has been a budget brand for a long time. I am old enough to recall the rear engined Skodas sold here in the 70's (and even thought about buying one). I can also recall the original Octavia sold here in the late 50's and early 60's. Used to see them getting around when I was a kid.

So enjoy your 90. I think they're great value and a good, honest, solid and pleasant car.

      Cheers BluChris!

As a young dad I'm drawn to the Octavia's practicality and value, and they're still quite unique amongst the cars on the road. I imagine it is only a matter of time before people catch on...

Sales numbers are growing despite VW Australia's worst efforts. What kind of surprised me when I bought mine a few years ago was my father's reaction. He's in his 80s and tends to buy conservative (Volvo, Mazda etc). I thought he'd give me a seniors version of WTF but in fact he went something like "Oh yes, Skodas are tough cars", thinking back to the old school Octavias etc he was familiar with. Kind of liked that.

You hit the nail on the head, practical and good value... but still a decent drive and a bit different. I also find the Octavia the perfect size balance. Roomy enough for family but not as barge like as some so-called medium sized cars.

Welcome to the club cbay, it's great to finally have a 90TSI owner on here! I truly believe that the 90TSI is not only Skoda's best value car, but one of the best value cars on sale in Australia. It's a great car (as well all know) and boy have you got a hidden gem of a car (not like all of us RS owners which are, comparatively, common)! I hope the ownership experience stays as positive for the whole time that you're with it.

Just be sure to wave to all the other Octy owners...
Then again, whenever I see an Octy thats NOT an RS, its usually an older (50-60+) or mother driving it. I wave anyway, and they give me strange looks.

Thanks guys for the warm welcome!

BluChris, the size factor was definitely a key selling point! we wanted something that wasn't smaller and not much larger than our A4. Octavia fit the bill I agree, 'mid sizers' like the mazda6 look and feel just a tad big, and less fun to drive. My dad's the same (conservative), he drives a mazda and doesn't like my bro's MkV GTI much but seems to like the Octy.

Jake, thanks for the reassurance. It's got the power when I need it (although I haven't had a chance to take it on some motorway driving yet) and I've almost halved my weekly fuel bill. Plus, the 5 year warranty was icing on the cake.

Todd, hahaha cheers! not as slick as your black beast (I've been keenly watching your thread!) but I plan to put some 17s or 18s on it and lower it a little in the future.

Mysticality, I haven't waved to other Octys just yet, but I have had the odd look or two from Superb drivers. I usually give a nod. Is there a particular Octy owner's secret wave and/or handshake?

I was actually looking at M35 Stageas as they're not too wide and they're pretty unique (and the Autech styling on the looks pretty slick IMO) but I didn't think going from a 2.4 V6 to a 2.5 V6Turbo or a 3.5 V6 was going to help my fuel bill lol

and thanks tooch, lol I was hoping it was more like

your detailed octy looks mint btw, good stuff. I need to make time for detailing asap!

Well, we can put it to the committee and see if it can be changed

Thanks mate, it's hard work, but well worth it imho. Although it's made me totally OCD now about all the tiny swirls and marks I missed!

they are thirsty as hell, but that VQ25DET can move 1800+kg from 0-100 in around 6 seconds with a few minor mods
