  • Octavia RS diesel chipping?

    Hi all,

Sorry in advance if this has been covered, but is it possible (and beneficial) to chip the Diesel RS? (DSG)
Does it increase power etc, and where is the best place to have it done in Sydney?
    APR??

I am about to order a wagon RS diesel....

    Thanks

is it even much of a change to 'chip' a diesel?

there is no ignition timing, its probably all boost! ive seen some boxes on ebay that i rekon just increase boost for the diesel models

Best bet is to hit up viezu or customcode or bluefin.
Viezu would be my pick as Greg/Simon know their stuff.
Definitely worth the upgrade and i believe they have an eco tune as well as a sports tune.

One of these days I'm going to head over to Berrima Diesel. They have a lot of ads in magazines like 4WD Action, and whatnot.

Actually, come to think of it, if you're going to chip the diesel (I know I am - in the future. Manual gearbox handles up to 615Nm according to VCDS), go to a 4WD specialist. Nearly all 4WD's are diesels (the good ones, anyway! ) and nearly all of them could do with a bit more power!!... Its a huge business.

Ebay boxes are basically a couple of capacitors with wires and plugs. They trick the ECU into adding more fuel by sending a lower air intake temperature reading, causing the ECU to think there air is more dense. More fuel = bigger bang = less economy.
And they could damage your engine.

DP chip at Berrima or Turbo-Glide at Russel Vale in Wollongong are local companies witha tonne of deisel tunning experience and close enough to add to your peace of mind.

              Thanks all for your feedback.
I will talk to the guys at Berrima and W'gong.
They are close to home...and there are plenty of great places in the southern highlands to test it out after it is done!!!

For the record 4x4 places are NOT specialists in euro diesels. The typical Jap diesel they see, and the typical sort of work they do is quite removed from what we see in the Euro scene. I have no doubt there are some diesel fourbie shops out there that are up to speed with euro diesels, I just have not come across any that's all.

Had to laugh at the comment above about tuning diesels, that is the general publics knowledge of the subject, timing on a diesel is done by fuel injection, which can indeed be altered. Adding boost without fuel is a waste of time, as diesels run from lean, that is too much air, down to ideal, whereas petrol cars run from rich up to ideal. Diesels basically have too little fuel, whereas petrol cars typically have too little air.

Tuning boxes are a crude solution at best, no way I'd go down that path, especially with a common rail. It's astounding to see "specialist" shops fitting these, they are such an outdated idea, there are so many better flash tunes available that are a true integrated product, and can provide a substantially better performance increase, usually with better economy and far less risk to your engine.
