  • Soon to be new Octavia RS owner

    Hi Guys,

I hope to buy a 2nd hand Octavia RS in the next few weeks and Ive been reading up on the stereo/gps units available in them.

Ive come up with 'Bolero' and 'Colombus'

Im assuming the colombus is bettter being newer?

If I get a bolero equipped model, can i purchase a colombus and just plug it in?

Sorry for the questions, i bet they have been answered but im not sure what im searching for on the forum.

    Thanks very much!

Bolero is effectively the VW RCD-510 which is the touchscreen radio (no sat nav), Columbus is basically the VW RNS-510 and is the touchscreen Sat Nav.

It is almost plug and play, but will require some VCDS coding, I believe. You will also need to route the GPS antenna too.

      the columbus also has a built-in 30gb (40 for the my12 i believe) hard-drive.
it also has a higher screen resolution.
have a look here for detailed differences. u should focus on "rcd-510" (bolero) and "rns-510" (columbus.

as dodgey said....should b plug'n'play + gps wiriing + mic wiring (voice control) + vcds coding.

thank you for the information guys, much appreciated!

I have no problem with wiring etc so if i can beat the dealer down, it might be worth sourcing a columbus from ebay or other such non-reputable sellers lol

i like having the ability for DVD playback.

VCDS programming via the cable i assume? sounds like its well worth owning one

          Hey guys,

again, thanks for the info. I ended up buying a brand new 2011 MY12 Octavia RS tonight, so lucky for me I dont need to change anything!

Still might get the VCDS cable.......

Congrats mate. The Skoda familia is definately growing exponentially. My RS has been stalked recently up in Bendigo and have been approached several times about the car so people have definately moved on from curiosity to actual interest in the Skoda brand of cars.

OK ive had the car for a little over 24 hours and done about 200km

this thing is a dream to drive. i dont know what people are complaining about with the DSG, its very preditcable and with a flick of the paddle, it will do what i want it to.

everything seems to just work (except the + paddle is damaged). probably the best car ive owned!!

had to have my paddle switches replaced after the + became sporadic. I waited for a year, but it was dodgy for a fair while. I didn't really start palying with them for a while as they take a bit of getting used to. Work sweet now, totally bang on changes.
