vRS ST2pp paddle install

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has the above after market paddles on their vRS? I have a set from my R and was hoping someone might have done this mod, or know of a link to a DIY?

Would the internals of the steering wheel be that different to a VW? Anyone know if the stock paddles are Audi or VW spec? If its Audi my VW spec ST2PP paddles may not fit.

i'm desperate to get the st2p paddle extensions for mine, but haven't taken the plunge cause the rep at S2TP can't confirm that it will fit the RS. and for asking price, its not something i wanna take a gamble on.

hence i reckon its the Audi version, but can't confirm.

looking at pics of maniac paddle shift extensions (stickons), the curvature of the vw versions don't match that on the RS.
another reason its possibly the audi version.

the rep at st2pp said best way to know is for me to remove my existing ones, and send it to them over in the states. they'll then b able to confirm, and install it for me, if all good.
becuase skoda doesn't sell in the US, they can't check for themselves.
unfortunately i'm not in a mood to pull apart my steering wheel (on a still new-ish car) with an airbag waiting to go off!!

buddy has done a fair few installs of these on VWs and he said he'll give it a go for me on the vRS. If it doesn't fit there are plenty of VW guys who will buy them here. I'm thinking price permitting if rhey dont fit buying some Skoda ones from Skoda parts and sending to the st2pp guy as per your post about him wanting a set. I think it'd be worth it so we can all get them. I've had them on my R and they increase the paddle experience 100%. Either way I'll soon know if the VW ones fit and if not then plan B from there.

i've been trying to find a source for just the dsg flappy paddles - but no luck.
the only option would b to buy an entire steering wheel w/ flappy paddles - remove those, and send them to st2pp in the states.
considering the price of a new steering wheel - its not an option for me.

maybe the wreckers - but i'm yet to hear of one sitting in a wrecking yard.

Yeh I've tried one Skoda spare parts place in Sydney (who also do Audi) and he's told me it's 644.00 for a pair of two plastic paddles???? WTF?
He told me they have electrical components inside which I know is def not the case for VW paddles. Unless they sell the paddles with all the wiring etc but having had them in my R I saw then replaced and they just unscrew out and the paddles themselves have no electrical components inside. Surely they can't be that different. He also said that's it's a different part number to the Audi paddles but he implied they may be the same. I have another dealership getting back to me, maybe they'll have a different story. It might be in the end a 'stick-on' paddle job but again dont know where to get those for Skoda

some of the audi ones though, do indeed have wiring, but that's because they have in-built lighting (on the '+' & '-' sign) so u can c them at night. 644 for a pair?!?!?......fark me!!!!!

i trying to avoid the stick-on versions as much as possible. maniacs make a few of these. so does 'osir' & 'Oettinger'. u gotta look for the audi versions though.

Agreed! If I can get a part number from the other skoda parts place I can do a bit more shopping around. But more news from ST2 velow

I contacted Michael from ST2 yesterday about working out some sort of arrangement with the paddles for the Skoda. I put it to him that I'd buy a set of the only Audi ones he has in stock (the model for the S3, R8 etc) to see if they fit, moreover to see for sure if it's Audi or VW spec. I will hang onto my VW paddles and try and do an install on both the VW and the Audi paddles at the same time. I put it to him if that neither fit as I will have the steering wheel open I will take the stock paddles off and send them to him to see if the other Audi spec model fit (which he doesn't have in stock) and that if they don't fit could he make up a set for the Skoda now that he has Skoda stock paddles to work off. The VW ones vs the Audi ones are definitely different based on the install pics from the ST2 website so whether they are Audi or VW spec will be determined pretty quickly. If they are Audi it will be a case of fitment only. This was his response:

You are more than welcome to purchase a set of the Black Anodized AU2S.B Paddles to check their fitment in your car. If they fit, perfect! If they don’t, it would be wonderful if you could return, and ship to us, both the S2T Audi Paddles and your OEM Skoda Paddles.
If our second Audi (AU1S.B) Paddle design does not fit your OEM Skoda Paddles, I’ll need to scan them so we can start on a new Skoda specific design.

The scanning process only takes a short time so I would not need to have your OEM Paddles for very long. I can ship them back to you within a week or two. However, it may take several months for us to produce a finished Skoda Paddle Shifter product.

Please let me know if you would like to move forward. As I mention before, we would be thrilled with the opportunity to finally know for sure if our S2T Paddles will fit the Skoda.

The question I want to put to you guys is if I do need to send him my Skoda paddles will not having the paddles on my car cause any issues, CEL, engine shutdown, terminal damage to the car? If the answer is no then I am going to go ahead with it. The other option is to order the Audi ones he has in stock, try them, if they don't fit send them back, get the other Audi model, try them and if they don't fit I am back at square one where he will still need the Skoda paddles to work it out. It's all a big PITA but it will be worth it if we can all get our hands on these.

that's awesome news there!!!
i've read over at briskoda that the car works fine without the paddles. as there r no wires in it, there is no issue with the paddles removed. no errors or damage. even michael had mentioned that too me a while ago.

the only obvious downside is that u can't shift with the flappy paddles in manual mode. u'll have to use the gear selector if manual mode is a must.
i was planning to remove it myself, and send it to michael for r&d, but i'm not brave to pull apart my steering well.

if it works out with either of the audi paddles, i'll order one too, and hopefully ur mate can help me out with the install.
i usually come up to sydney once a month to visit my folks. i can meet up with u and ur mate, if possible.

I'll check with mate and if he can sweet. He's a bit reluctant given its looking like its Audi/Skoda spec and he works off a very detailed DYI on VW paddles. Fingers crossed he takes up the challenge failing that it'll be off to my mechanic.

Bit of an update,

I had a call back from lennocks (lennox?) Skoda spare parts and found a guy that wanted to help-surprise!

Essentially Skoda do not sell the 'paddle' as such on it's own as it's connected to the 'electrical box monitor thingy' hence the retail of price of about $322 per side. When you purchase the ST2 paddles you are effectively removing the 'paddle' component from the electrical component part and replacing that with the ST2 paddle but there are no wires connecting the paddle to the electrical component only screws or clips. Ok so that makes sense to me now why they are so expensive.

The guy from lennocks sent me a diagram from the spare parts catalogue which hopefully I've attached correctly where you can see what the paddle is attached to. I did a part number google search and not a thing came up in English lol-they're cheaper but still around 300-400 for a set

So, I emailed this diagram to ST2 and he said he's fairly certain that it's the same as the ones on Audi A3. The ST2 paddle shifter code for this is AU1S. But , they don't have any in stock and won't have any until March sometime. I have back ordered a set and if they fit great and if they don't I'll send the ST2 paddles back along with the Skoda paddles and from there they will scan them and go about making a set for the Skodas (or it may be they only have to make a small adjustment for it to fit the Skoda).

So hopefully the AU1S fit but if not looks like if I send him my Skoda paddles he'll be able to make up a paddle for the Skoda
