PSS is the replacement for the PS2. Better grip especially under brakes. Wear rating is 300 on the PSS; 220 on PS2.

PS3 isn't quite as "focussed" as PS2/PSS. More of an all-rounder?

One of my mates on another forum has an M3 that he's just fitted PSS to about 2 weeks back. Very happy.

I'll keep them in mind, the PS3s on our other car were great so might also see what the local price is.....horrible still I suspect.

IIRC, the Goodyear F1A2 were about USD180 each. A set of 4 should come in at ~AUD1050 delivered, fitted & balanced
Well looks like the GY F1 Asym2 have come down in price since I last checked, which was only about 3 weeks ago. The deal
i was Looking at was a local goodyear dealer who was keen to discuss a discounts, but I hadn't pushed him for a set quote. I'd say I'll go through tirerack looking at the pricing now. Just wanted to see if anyone has tried out the new Asym2's as yet to give their verdict......

Needing tyres soon so made some calls at lunch. Brand names are expensive. Nexens for 199 fitted.

Most interesting option was from local Bridgestone centre who offered a tyre made by Bridgestone (Dayton) for 150 fitted. His view was these were better than all of the other budgets. Any views on these?

His view would be because it's the in-house brand & therefore better margin / better monthly/quarterly/yearly bonus. Do you really thin he has that much of a clue how well the tyre performs?

            cheap
            good wear
            good grip

            choose 2

Cant quite understand why anyone wouldn't spend a few hundred more & get PSS. You've got to live with the damn things for 2-3yrs don't you?

Some guys on another forum I have just joined, all put Nexens on various 4WDs and reckon they are incredibly ****e....hopefully these ones you guys have been fitting work better, but everything in my head says probably not. I will have a look what PS3s are going for and maybe go PSS, but from memory neither are at Tirerack...

Because my wife drives the car slower than miss daisy's chauffeur in Brisbane at speeds under 60 km/h 99% of the time.

Michelin XM2's then. Quiet, decent grip, good ride, long wearing and save some fuel.

Oh, well if it's only for the wife...... ;-p (used to get that all the time when I was selling tyres. Very annoying consdering the wife usually carted the kids around as well).

Nexen aren't a bad tyre. IIRC, they are popular with the drift brigade. Their will be a compromise involved somewhere - like the Khumo KU36 that I had. Initially terrific but then they got noisy at 50% & weren't as grippy. Goof value though.

PSS are on tirerack - they work out at USD221 each landed in CBR (mate ordered them for his RS on the 18/01). Yanks don't seem to have PS3 yet.

How are the Nexen guys finding the tyres? I'm a month or three away from needing tyres (continentals at 25k) and I want to get an idea of what sort of money I need to put aside. The Nexens sound like a good deal, but I'm happy to use Maxxis again (have had two sets on two different vehicles and they have been a good price/performance result).

Geeze, we are on 50k and still heaps of tread with out Michelin PE2s that came on it, friends who live in the Dandenongs and do lots of corners are about 10k ahead of us and same result. I really wish we could still get them now, as even though they were expensive they seem to outperform everything around now.

I was pretty lazy getting around to doing a 4 wheel alingment but i've got 20k on the nexens so far with wheel alignment done at 20k. the rears were feathered from poor alignment and the front overly worn from too much toe, but still the fronts are down to 50% and the rears about 80%. I'm expecting to get about another 25k before they are all worn out.... that'll be 40k.

As I've now rotated front to back after the alignment, the fronts are beginning to quiet down as the sawtooth wear slowly goes away and the rear is pretty quiet. Grip all round is still great.

                          Also still averaging 5.4l/100km.

PS - my idea of 100% worn is generally just above the wear indicators in the middle.... probably I'd get another 10k out of a set if I wasnt so fussy.

minimum legal (wear indicators) is 1.5mm but I find anything below 3mm gets a bit scary in the wet. I hate that feeling on a FWD when you are driving in the rain & can feel the back end has lifted & is just "coming along for the ride"

Yeah, I prety much never let them go that far since I do 80% of my driving at 110km/h and in the wet on the F3.... well theres just too many idiots to watch out for.

The wear indicators on my nexens are 2mm (measured via verniers)

Bloody hell that is good. I am rather hard on my tyres though, around 30k would be normal across the cars I've had. I've had a couple of wheel alignments from the dealer, I'd hope they would get them right.... right???

Cheers mate! I suppose my main concern is how they go in the wet given the VRS's ability to spin the front tyres from standing starts and I've had a few sets of tyres that were scary in the wet.
