Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Use of 2 stroke oil in 2011 RS TDI

    Hi Folks,

Been a stalker here for a while before my first post and I must say I like what I read. Very informative forums.

I took delivery of my Race Blue 125kW 2.0 TDI RS Wagon just over a week ago and am loving it! Pretty much stock except for tint - darkest legal all round for $220.00.

Now the real reason for my post relates to the diesel donk. A friend of mine has a diesel Merc van and swears by the addition of 2 stroke oil in the fuel every fill. Says it is quieter at idle, has slightly better torque and there is and improvement in economy. Merc apparently has done a lot of R&D on the matter and back the addition of 2 stroke oil in their diesels.

Now this may open up a can of worms, however I'll ask anyways.... what are the pros and cons for adding 2 stroke oil to my diesel donk?

Looking forward to some constructive discussions on this matter.

There's a thread about this in the Diesel subforum and it gets pretty heated between proponents (I'm one) and detractors of this practice.
In fact you will find a thread about this on just about any forum where there are diesel engined cars!!
