  • How many Skoda Drivers are ex Subaru Drivers?

Just interested to know how many disgruntled/disenchanted Subaru drivers have sought refuge in a Skoda...

I know I did... How many more out there?

I shoped the octavia versus a forester......the quality of the interior and the gutless (diesel) engine swayed me away from the forester.

Former MY01 Liberty wagon owner here! I can draw some parallels to that buying experience - I wanted something a bit different to the 'norm' and Subarus were that then (not the characterless snotboxes they are now).

Subarus these days attract the same buyers that Volvos did in the 80s. Bland ,boring safe cars with bowls hats on the rear parcel shelf. (WRX and STI excepted).

I have owned a Subaru which I drove over 250,000km but it wasn't recently and I didn't consider a Subaru when I purchased this car.
I definitely wouldn't call myself a disgruntled former Subaru owner.

I had a 2004 Outback when I first started, was thinking about them, but after driving it for 3mths was over the poor fuel economy and its sluggish heavy driving. Took the Liberty off the list and got a Mazda 6 for a few years and the RS for almost the last 3 now. I've driven a few Forestors as hire cars for work over the years, and find the turning circle for parking the biggest putoff.

Current MY05 Forester driver here. Also have a MY09 Forester and an 08 Accord (being replaced with either Superb or A4)

Mum and dad have had them since before I was born, their first was purchased over 25 years ago. I have been a Subaru nut all my life, mainly because, like Jake said, there was something different about them, and they were reliable. Now they appeal to a different demographic, and quite frankly have lost their 'Subaruness'. Whilst mum's 09 isn't a bad car, its like owning a Toyota - it just fits in with the crowd, whereas a car like mine was different from others in '05. Interesting that in Europe they are rated as being less reliable than Skoda, which has now been enough to sway me completely.

My next car will be either a Yeti or Octavia - although as a uni student that purchase is a few years away still. I wouldn't say I'm disgruntled owner, just saddened that a company I once loved, has gone the way that it has.

I will admit that we looked at an Outback 3.6 R after looking at the Superb - and promptly walked back out of Subaru.

Currently parked at ours is a 2009 Octy tsi 118 and a 2011 Forester.
I recently did a couple of 800k + days in the Subaru and whilst there is nothing glaringly wrong with the Forester, the Skoda has so much more going for it.

I had an 04 Outback and, although I'd had a really quick look at Skoda, was going to replace it with a 10 Outback, but no stock of the Outback I was going to get when I wanted it, so looked at the Scout again.

Rear seat legroom was less, but the interior reminded me positively of the MkIV Golf the Subaru had replaced (Subaru interiors are awful) and it wasn't unecessary tall as the ugly new Outback. Having bought it, the diesel torque (I'd been looking at the 2.5 petrol Subaru) was a fantastic gain.

Overall, no egrets about switching from Subaru, and very happy to recommended Skoda.

Didn't think I was the only one... The only thing I truly miss is the AWD. The RS could really do with a bit more traction in the wet. Neither the traction control or the electronic diff make up for the lack of AWD. The Skoda is better in pretty much every other way though. Only slight unknown being the resale...
