I had a Gen2 Liberty RX (the 2.5 quad cam that promised so much & delivered so little). It wasn't a bad car but was incredibly gutless & drank fuel like a V8. Bought a 2.0 Golf mk3.5 Cabrio as the wife's car when she did a 12 month secondment to UTS & there was no car in the package. I couldn't believe how much gruntier the VW was, so when she went back to her old job & got another company car, i took the VW. Then went to Skoda when the VW got tired.

Wife now has a 2.5 Subaru Outback (hand-me-down from her predecessor). It appears to be the current car of choice for "packaged" State/Local Government employees. I think that speaks volumes about where Subaru are aiming at. The Outback looks very nice at first glance (alloys, sunroof, leather) but it's amazing how many features are missing (park sensors, trip computer, bluetooth, decent sound system, etc)

I had MY01 Outback for ten years since new. When time came for an upgrade I gave Subaru the first dibs. I had a look at the new Outback and realized that it was essentially the old one, but with whining noisy sluggish CVT. No other equipment had progressed in the years passed since I had the car. Navigation was extra, no media or hard drive, xenons - extra, interior was actually worse then in my old Suby. Diesel was only available with manual transmission. And all that was packaged into an ugly shell. Disappointment.

After some research and test driving of various contenders (not really!) I settled on a Superb wagon, and what a car it is! No regrets. I mean, everything in this car, except AWD option which is sadly wasn't on offer last year with the diesel, everything is much better then Subaru.

I also decided to keep the old Outback in the family FTW!

Had an older Impreza wagon and was keen to replace it but new ones are near to identical: felt the same, sound the same (noisy), even minor switchgear etc seemed unchanged. So decided to buy a Golf, except then they seemed too small -and no 4x4. Scout seemed logical

I'm also part of the ex Subaru drivers. I had a 2000 RX wagon, loved it. Would have considered another expect for the 2011 shape! Feauture wise, Skoda kills it.

Just came from a MY11 Kia Sorento and MY07 Kia Rio.
Kinda missing the torque and AWD of the Sorento, especially for camping.
Considered getting the Scout but in reality, when I can afford to replace bent panels from offroading I'll be able to afford an LR Defender, or something.

Loving my RS, its so... Everything. Its amazing.
The only thing I would love to look into would be the retrofit of the Haldex AWD from the Scout... And thats only cause I still bring up the traction control light in 3rd in the rain.

So I'm leaving my 2007 2.0R liberty for a 118TSI Skoda Octavia. To be honest, I never thought i'd buy a Skoda, until I did the research and it seems that almost all the reviews are very very positive. It is very rare that you hear that many good things.

I am going from one RS to another. I am a former owner of a very rare Australian delivered 1992 white Liberty RS Turbo wagon. It was heavily modified and I had so many problems with its I spent more keeping it on the road than I did to buy it in the first place. But very few of my problems were mod related.

It was a brilliant car when it was running well...so for those 2 days it was great!!!

Now I am awaiting my new white vRS TSI wagon to arrive....Hope this one is a bit better on the reliability front, which I am sure it will be!

                            I did a very quick search & can't find.

Search in WhiteJames posts. It isn't rocket science, you need to keep the engine loaded up but limit yourself to 4000rpm for the first 1500km. Avoid traffic if you can - get out on the highway, find some mountains to climb, slow into corners then accelerate out. You are trying to force the rings out against the bores.

Limit to 4000rpm? Really? Speaking for myself once the engine oil was up to temp I let her sing all the way to redline from the day I picked her up from the dealership!! 31k on the clock now and not a drop of oil consumed, not a single top up needed..I agree you should keep the engine loaded, if you do a freeway run then every few mins drop it back to 3rd or 4th, then up again, then drop it back, just keep varying the revs but by all means don't be afraid to give it a bootfull!

there are a million threads on this forum about how to run in a vehicle. WhiteJames, in his own verbose manner had a method that wasn't at any of the extremes so I figured that was a good place to point the guy.

4000rpm is about where i felt my engine going tight when it was new. Other vehicles may differ.

I didn't use 5th or 6th gear (or CC) for the first 1500km but again, others might use 5th or even 6th.

Personally, I'm a 2/3rds guy - 2/3rds of redline, 2/3rds of the gears, 2/3rds of maximum throttle but there are plenty of legitimate alternatives.

i'd rather not turn this thread into a "how to run-in your engine" thread and I'm sure deeps can use the search function.

BTW: deeps: check your oil every 500km until you get a feel for how sealed it is. I'm over all these loons that express suprise when their oil light comes on......
