  • Front Seat Options?

    Hi Guys,

Well as you all probably know, the vRS seats are quite firm along with a non-tiltable headrest. Anyway, the missus has been experiencing some back pain after driving and being stuck in traffic. She has tried different seating positions but still finds the seats uncomfortable. We've never had this issue with any of our other cars so I can only point my finger at the seats. I was curious as to whether anyone else has had the same problem?

I'm curious as to whether I can fit some seats from a golf into the skoda - but then the rears probably don't fit so that wouldn't look good at all...any help would be great.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Although I thought it was a bit cheap not having adjustable headrests, I am surprised to hear your wife cannot find a comfortable position.

Have you played with lumbar support, arm reach etc? My wife is almost 2 foot shorter than me although we now have it so that I just move the seat back to where I am comfortable, without touching any other adjustments. In driving to Qld twice plus other long trips to mountains, Central Cost etc, neither of us have ever had problems with the seat.

Have you looked at standard Octavia front seats? My headrests are adjustable (tilt forward and back as well as up and down), and I imagine are a different shape from the vRS

After 3 years in the RS seats i have to say they are the most comfortable i have ever experienced, the key being tall, is the long squab and good stong lumbar , never had any problems .

Now with the GTI look sensational and fit very snug around the body ,but the sqab is shorter and the lumbar is not as pronounced , and i find i do get the odd back issue .

Her height may be the issue as my partener is 150cm and found the RS seats horrible because of the long seat .

Yep I actually found them to be better when I had back issues and the heating is like having a heat pack on all day. The headrests being fixed is not a cheapness thing, mine move in our RS, it was when the update came in that all of them became fixed due to the WOKS headrests being used.

To be honest the RS seats are not for everyone, and being the "sports" model I wouldn't expect them to be. My workmate is a bit overweight and she doesn't like them cause the sides of the sqab stick into her. I'm tall and thinner so don't have that issue but can see how it would happen as I do feel them there. The lower models have a broader seat so would be more comfortable for some people.

But my RS headrests tilt fore and aft? And I agree with Spellbound, the RS seats are very comfy (except after the 10-hour trip to Melbourne, but blast the heated seats and the issue was rectified). But I guess you can't design a seat to fit everyone!

Read Above Jake, the first versions had the tilt in the headrests, but the facelifts didn't.

                  Thanks for the replies guys.

I personally find the seats very good so it's hard for me to see how she is having issues with it. Maybe my first step is to try and get hands on pre-fl head rests - apparently direct swap over....

Before our last trip to Qld I was close to buying a couple of those headrests with built-in DVD players/screens to keep the kids amused, but never did it.

It just reminded me that it should be relatively easy to buy aftermarket headrests or at least pre-FL versions.

It's not a cheap thing, the WOKS versions can't move as part of their design.

Well I think the main concern is basically getting some comfier seats in the RS, otherwise I will have to look at other options. Put her up in the classifieds to see if there is any interest in the car - but not set in stone on selling yet.

I have talked to a guy selling the Golf R leather seats. I find out over the next couple of days if I can take them! Hope so

They do look similar. I'm getting the missus to go sit in the car and feel the difference. From what I have read, the golf seats aren't as firm.
