Scout or Yeti?

How old are the dogs? If 50% of them are over the age of 6 buy the Yeti, if younger, buy the Scout.

Not so fast mate, many people who own Skoda or VW in this forum, owned Subaru before and they mention it freely from time to time in here. No real harm to the original topic in that. Just for the reference the Subaru has no technically backward engineering as you mentioned. The boxer engine and they symmetrical AWD is excellent and almost bullet proof.

I had the MY00 liberty. Loved it. Was a good looking car too. If they improved the look I'd go back.

Don't do it Jake. I had a Gen2 RX & the car forum I help run is/was Subaru based (so many have moved on to other brands). Wife has just been assigned a 2010 Outback as her company drive & I'm really disappointed how they haven't kept up with a lot of features that are now standard on other makes. Sure the AWD is still great & the 2.5 is suprisingly nippy from a standing start but the gearbox is horrible (I think it's a CVT but haven't bothered to check).

Sales are up, so I guess the stuff that matters to me, doesn't matter to people that just want transport.

JAKE i had a 3.0R wagon auto , loved the car ,best looking jap car at the time and still is , hated the gearbox should have waited and got manual , economy , city 14l , rural 9.5l , both my RS and now the GTI city 8.5 , both quicker cars .

The RS wagon has lots more rear space than the liberty , only advantage is AWD which you only notice on bad/wet roads , did handle better than the RS , however the FL and the GTI now have the tricky diff which i find on the VW makes all corners a dream even under extreme power .

If he goes the liberty make sure its manual , because that auto is a dog , they had to recalibate it at every service , and it was useless in sport/manual mode with a mind of its own.

I did look at a Honda CRV a couple of years ago Anthony, a friend had one and it was very nice. I just don't trust the Jap cars for finish quality. They seem to get squeaks and rattles, little bits of plastic break etc. I expect though they will have to lift their game soon if they are to hold off the Skodas for long.

PassatB6, thank you very much for that link! That kind of review is exactly what I have been scouring the net for and failed to find. I have to say it actually looks much less weird and is also bigger than I thought, particualrly the boot. Not happy about the seats not folding flat but you can't have everything.

Hopefully the dealer will have the Yeti in end of this week so I can check them both out. I will report back with all the gory details. Thank you all for your contributions!

Lol don't worry Spellbound, my parents have never owned an auto and I doubt they ever will. I got my P's in July and people are surprised when I say I drive a manual, I actually get kinda of offended and then ram how much better manuals are into them .

And Michelle, good work on the CR-V, unfortunately it's uglier than the Yeti and bloody boring too (with its one engine, two transmission drivetrain options - they really need the Euro-spec diesel here). A new one's being revealed in a couple of weeks.

Just to jump in here Michelle, Japanese built cars are much less likely to get squeaks etc than any euro including skodas. Thai built car are a different matter, only the accord euro, the odyssey an the legend are still jap made. The rest are Thailand. Mazda are all still mainly Japan here as well.

There are pros and cons but it's rare a euro built car is better build quality, the Skodas seem to buck the general trend there, but there are plenty of people here either rattley golfs etc and even a few rattley Octavias.

I agree...my Mazda 3 didn't make a sound (apart from the road noise!!), but it was very "plastic" inside compared to my Skoda...I definitely have no regrets about making the change to the Octavia!!

Better that I had said Jap brand cars, rather than built perhaps. I have had three Jap cars, and every single one was a dissapointment in the build quality. I just don't tust them anymore.

As soon as I sat in the Astra I have now, the difference was obvious.

Besides the build quality though, there is no comparison with the bang for buck I believe. For around $44k to $48k I will get a fully spec bells and whistles Yeti, or Scout. Most of what I want is standard now on the Skodas, whereas all the other brands I looked at either don't have what Skoda offers e.g. knee airbag, recharable LED torch, or it's an option.

I've found the nicest thing about the Skodas and the euro cars in general is that someone seems to have actually thought about what the owner might like and find useful, as opposed to what can be attached cheaply and then marketed as sexy.

I will be interested to see if the Aust. Yeti and Scout have the two sun visors, front and side, I have seen mentioned in some reviews. It's not mentioned in the brochure.

Michelle - I hope you grab a Skoda, no matter which you decide. Personally I prefer the looks and capabilty of the Scout to the Yeti, but can see why you might swing the other way.

And also checking in as a former Subaru owner (04 2.5i Outback) - the new model is butt ugly and too tall, though it was only lack of supply in what I wanted at the time that got me looking at the Skoda again. The much more mature interior absolutely sold me on the Skoda.

The Skoda Yeti is the best car in the world. You can drive it through a burning building and the air conditioning stays cold. Your friends can be tattooed in the backseat as you drive on bumpy grass, it's so smooth. It's faster than a ferrari. You can even land a helicopter on the roof.

Buy a Skoda Yeti.
