Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hey dudes,
    Has anyone had any experience with engine mount inserts (Torque Arm bushes)?

    <Backstory>
    A few weeks ago, I took off too quick at the lights and the engine moved so much that it's separated something or other to do with the exhaust leaving the car sounding like I was driving without a cat! (it actually sounded AWESOME, scary, but awesome).

    So I took it straight to my mechanic and he fixed it easily. He said all I needed to do, is buy a bush that fills the space and I'll never get this problem again.

    <fast forward to today>
    I got the part from APR called an Engine Mount insert, and installed it today. It has sharped throttle response and almost eliminated a few of the flat spots around 2000RPM....BUT... It vibrates.... SHOCKINGLY! So much so, that when I get to the lights I have to put it in neutral or park so that it's no so annoying.

    Has anyone ever dealt with this? And if so, is there a remedy?
    I've got an exhaust on order, will this help soften the rattle, or worsen it?

    I've seen them talk about this on other forums, like golfmk6.com. Most of them are experiencing what you are, when at a stop they get the vibration through the body. Not sure what can help it though!

        Might be able to convince people that it's a "massage" feature only available with the Skoda Octavia vRS lol

          its possible your engine mounts are tentioned or "tweaked" a bit and its transmitting more vibration than it should.

          engine mounts usually have some amount of adjustment and unless they are all neutral they wont to their job properly, to varyiing degrees.

            I know that this has also happened to some of the polo boys in the past and APR did have 2 types of these bushes/inserts one being stiff and the latter being a "race" spec if you will. Anyway, one of the guys (can't remember who) had the race spec installed by accident and was complaining of the same until it was replaced with the standard upgrade type which greatly reduced the vibration. I had apr engine mounts in my polo and tbh, I didn't encounter any of the extra vibration that some other complained of even with the air con switched on.
