  • How long does it take to get the parts for MY10 Octy?

    Hi Guys,

First of all, excuse me with my not-so-good written English skills.

I am posting here just to find out what is the average time takes to get the parts delivered to panel beater for MY10 Octavia Wagon.

My wife got involved in multi-car collision in June and the repair job is being covered by the insurance company (AAMI) as the other driver is at fault.

The car was dropped in their assessment centre on 24 June 2011 and I haven’t got my car back since then.

Whole progress of the job is as below:

24/06/2011: car dropped in and given a hire car by Hertz (Ford Focus with 60k on the clock!)
27/06/2011: AAMI advised that the car was picked up by a panel beater in Sunbury (!!!) and ETA is 04/07/2077
01/07/2011: returned the hire car as AAMI only allows 10 days to have a hire car
04/07/2011: got a call that the ETA was pushed back to 07/07/2011 as the parts had not been delivered from Germany (???) yet.
07/07/2011: pushed back to 13/07/2011 due to the parts
12/07/2011: got a call that the ETA was pushed back to 15/07/2011 again.
14/07/2011: ETA pushed back to 19/07/2011
18/07/2011: ETA pushed back to 22/07/2011
20/07/2011: ETA pushed back to 3pm on 29/07/2011
29/07/2011: got a call in the morning that the ETA was pushed back to 05/08/2011
04/08/2011: got at call that the car would be ready after 3pm on 05/08/2011
05/08/2011 (today): got a call this morning that I will be updated on 08/08/2011.

The damage done to my car was front & rear bumper bar and bonnet.

Could anyone tell me that this is normal?

I have not been in an accident, but I have had to wait for parts on warranty fixes before.

If the parts are not in stock in Melbourne then sadly you will have to wait, and sometimes the wait is a long time. It took 3 months for a locking part to arrive for my car.

I hope for your sake you don't have to wait as long as I did.

      +1
a ship sailing from germany can only go so fast (min. 44 days), and that's presuming the part made it to inventory list for that particular shipment.

AAMI & their 'repairers'... Good luck.

Parts do take quite a long time to arrive if they aren't in stock in Australia. I waited for 2 months for a replacement light under warranty.

          What he said.
Get an inventory of the parts that are actually missing. Often delays have more to do with arguments between repairers and insurance companies than availability of parts. The shmuck who owns the car is just meat in the sandwich.
AAMI use where possible second hand parts. It's highly likely that they spent the first couple of weeks trying to track down parts at wreckers before anything was even ordered from Skoda.

Whoa, I didn't know that AAMI is that bad.

I was told by a lady who assessed the car at one of their assessment centre what only new genuine parts will be used for the job but I may have been deceived after reading all sort of stories over the net.

Is there a way to find out if secondhand parts from wrecker was used?

Could you guys also please kindly recommend overall good insurance company in Victoria?

Personally I use GIO. For the business we use Allianz. Both are recommended. It's very important is that YOU have the choice of repairer, NOT the insurance company. Reading the PDS will tell you this.

RACV. We have had I think three claims in the last 25 or so years with them one BMW that SWMBO drove a bit wide on a corner and over some rocks and ripped the NS suspension off, one BMW that was rear ended but still driveable and hail damage last year for the Audi. Prompt repairs at all times, no issue picking our repairer, simple paperwork and no arguments about what was covered and what was not.
Premiums are a little higher in some cases but when it comes to the pointy end you certainly get what you pay for.

K1W1 has a very good point here.
My parents always used to say "you only get what you pay for" and i am a big beleiver in this. If you go for the cheaper insurance (and i do appreciate that affordability plays a big part in this) you should always read and understand the PDS to know what you are potentially missing out on. Paying a bit more initially, can give huge benefits in the future if you are using a good insurer.

Could anyone tell me that this is normal?

sorry to what happen to your wife, i hope she's ok. with regards to your car, it is normal to that situation since the total damage was kinda critical although the whole car is not crushed or whatsoever. thank God it's not crushed, it's normal to have a long ETA since the damage was done in front and at the rear bumper. and since the parts will come to europe, where ford usually manufactured there, it will surely that those parts will be delayed, if the parts will be delayed, and so with the car itself. it's better to just make a follow up everyday so that they going to repaired that as soon as possible.

me as my experience, i have a very vintage Volkswagen car, and i want to repair this on a shop nearby, but they refuse to repair my car due to lack of parts, if i could just find parts of my car then definitely i can restore the essence of my car. it's normal dude, just wait, we don't know it will be delivered on your house unexpectedly. LOL!

                      kind regards,

                      darren

My Ocy has been to the repair cause my lovely neighbour across the road backed into it reversing out of his driveway..........

I required a new rear bumper, support bar, right tail light and other smaller bits and pieces. I put a claim thru my insurance co which was Shannons at the time (my neighbour paid thru his insurance though) and all up it was approx $1,300 in parts & labour. I waited approx 2 weeks for parts to arrive and for the panel beaters to have the time to repair it and it was finished within a week. I also got my towbar fitted at the same time which saved me approx $200 cause the towbar place didn't have to pull bits off and fit them again cause there was no bumper!

                        Cheers

When we got rear ended in our superb, from the day the assessment was done till we got the car back fully done, it was about 6 weeks!
We were given a toyota corolla as a loan car while our car was at the panel beaters.
