    Go with the car you really like. If you like GTi over vRS, great, get it. If you like vRS more than GTi, then don't let those factors like resale bother you too much.

    I made the same mistake initially when I ordered the Passat, cuz the price difference is only $90 more than the Superb when I spec'd up the Passat, but common sense says Passat should has better resale than Superb (but no evidence)! Everyone, including many Superb owners adviced me to take the Passat. That's what I did and put the deposit in.

    Ever since that I always regret in making that decision and I just couldn't keep my eyes off when I see a Skoda on the road.

    Luckily, the contract crashed and I got full refund of the deposit. I am so happy now that I ordered the Superb. Everyone around me think I am crazy, but I just like Skoda. I'm gonna be driving in it for the next few years, so I better enjoy a car that I love, not a car simply because it has higher resale.

      i don't buy a car based on its resale value, or how the other 'sheep' think.
      i buy i car because its exactly wat i want, and that i'm going to enjoy it for many years to come.


      if a person changes their car every 3/5 yrs, they're just doing it for the tax benefit, not because of their passion for cars. again, that's only my opinion.

        Really? I thought people with a passion for cars often change cars at a reasonably frequent rate. Always wanting the latest and greatest.

          My RS is MY10, without GPS or Bluetooth. The Dealer wanted a laughable $2000 to fit both and I couldn't afford it at the time.
          What's the best way to get a factory Bluetooth installed into my Bolero?
          Do I need to replace the whole unit plus aerial to have GPS as well? I'd rather the OEM one as I'm using a crappy Navman and bluetooth combo at the moment and the cords drive me nuts!
          Anyone else upgraded from MY10 and below?

            I'm curious to know the prices Skoda & VW are quoting you. I just pulled up the quotes from VW when I bought my car last year (I was nearly going to buy a GTI). My Skoda ended up being $46,000 driveaway with pretty much every option selected. VW quoted me $59,800 driveaway for a similar spec GTI. The GTI was specced with the park assist option but didn't include Xenons (so it would have been even more expensive), that was the only difference. I then drove to Skoda and signed the deal.
            I understand resale will be better on a GTI, but $14,000 better off in 5 years? I don't think so. Plus who cares, I saved $14,000 when I bought it! I can now put that money in a term deposit and be MUCH better off than I would have been in a Golf!
            Maybe you need to screw Skoda a bit more on the price? I find it hard to imagine VW discounting their inflated Australian prices they use and love.

              Kruftec Fiscon unit. Any decent car sound place should be able to fit one. The integrate completely with the cars electronics to the point of having the call numbers displayed on the MFD between the speedo and tacho if you want.

                  Also in terms of resale, gotta take into consideration that all your sepc'd up option will be virtually nothing at times when you trade-in. All the dealer look at is just the model, year and mileage. The options will only help you to sell the car, but no value at all! So i was told by a dealer during trade in.

                  So lets say both GTi and vRS costs $45000, and you get $30000 for GTi, and $25000 for vRS. But you spent $10,000. more to spec up the GTi to match vRS's spec. At the end, for GTi, you retain $30000/55000 = 54.5%. With vRS, $25000/45000 = 55.5%. Who has better resale?

                    These are the initial deals I was given with next to no negotiating:

                    no options Blue manual RS Liftback = $38500 on road (that with the mandatory optional maybe MY 12 BT )
                    no options Black 5 door manual Golf GTi = $39500 on road

                    I am not too fussed on options. So I don't really believe in speccing up a car to match the mandatory spec of another.
                    Both cars are excellent and value for money (though in slightly different ways)

                    I do believe that Skoda could perhaps revert to the RCD510 (touch screen, no sat nav) as standard and delete the heated seats and make the car a 36K+ORC proposition. Then bundle options, like in the Scout Premium, to produce the RS Premium (perhaps call it the VRS ) . Then you are left with colour, engine, transmission and 2 specs. Easier to stock. And I do believe for Skoda to really see a sales increase they need to be able to supply a vehicle, from stock, to the average Joe Punter. They wont wait round 3-6 months for a car.

                      I wish they'd do that for the whole Skoda range (except the Superb, it's already well-equipped).

                      A Yeti Premium (panoramic roof, heated/leather seats, electric drivers seat, tinted windows, xenons) would be fantastic, as would an Octavia 118/103 Premium (sunroof, 17s, heated/electric leather, tinted windows) and RS Premium (full-leather, sunroof etc) but don't play with the current specs, they're perfect!

                          That's not true.
                          Given that two cars are virtually identical (mileage, condition, colour, service history) the one with the leather trim and sunroof and better stereo will always be worth more than the one with the lower spec items. What a vehicle is worth as a trade in or second hand is a direct reflection of how saleable it is and cars with options are always more saleable.

                            One of the biggest determinates is colour.. So steer clear of yellow Nice conservative metallics.

                            Leather I will pay... sunroof is like a pool. Some people may want it but others it will rule the car out. We are not a country of sunroof lovers. Most cars come with a half decent stereo so for most people that is not a sale clincher on a secondhand vehicle.

                            Of course the other factor is alloywheels. Factory alloys to be specific.

                              glad i don't plan to sell mine after 3 or 5 yrs, or at all......
