When to change a timing belt on Octavia vRS TDi

I was at Skoda Artarmon on the weekend pricing up a fully specced RS 147TSI DSG wagon. Apart from being pleasantly surprised with the quote (even before negotiation) I asked about whether the 147TSI has a timing belt or chain. One guy said belt, another chain. A quick look here & my question is answered, it is a chain, thankfully....
Was also advised new orders from now will be MY12 (delivery Jan-Feb 2012) & the only change to MY11 cars will be the standard fitment of Bluetooth. Price increases by $450.
Thanks fella's....

Hmmm adding in a $100 part and increasing the price? Bit strange they are now saying Jan/Feb, usually they make it here before then, maybe demand still isn't coping.
TSI are definitely chain, and the TSFI were defnitely belts, thats why it was odd that people are getting told to change the chains so early. Its already bad enough that the people with belts are getting told prematurely as well.

Yep, I thought the same about the $450 increase for MY12 but decided not to question it yet. If I continue on & buy the RS i'll negotiate the removal of the $450 then.
They said delivery is longer for higher spec cars (
) & also mentioned they are seeing the order book fill faster than in the past. The current order book closes in the next 3-4 weeks apparently. The previous order book closed in the last two weeks with those orders expected in December.
Make what you will of those dealer comments I have mentioned but it certainly seems the popularity of Skoda's is increasing....* MY12 B7 Passat V6 4-motion Highline wagon....

So anyone had the 4 year/60,000km service on a TDI engine and did it require a timing belt change? Cost of service?2008 Skoda Octavia Elegance TDI 4x4 wagon

I think people have had the 60k service who do more kms, but so far I think I'm almost the first to hit the 60k/4yrs later this year simultaneously. Mine is a TFSI though and was bought late Nov 08, there should have been since Oct last year the first cars hitting the 4yr mark though. The timing belt is actually 90k/4yrs whichever hits first.

It's 7years or 105,000km whichever comes first. But, it is still 100,000km earlier than the manual that came with our Golf5 says. The time factor is important if you do less than 30,000km per year.Performance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link

Are you meaning chain or belt, my manual says belt inspection at 90k/4yrs but the dealers say to inspect is 90% of the work so they replace it while they are there. I've asked repeatedly about it over the years and I get the same answer each time.Originally posted by Transporter View PostIt's 7years or 105,000km whichever comes first.
