  • AU Carbonio vs US Carbonio intake

    Hey guys,

Just wondering if the part numbers are the same for the US spec Carbonio intake as the Aus spec. obviously with the current exchange rate, it works out much cheaper to come from the states (if they deliver to Aus).

And since the US dont know what a Skoda is, which is the relevant Part number when relating to VW products? ie. which VW model/product uses the same intake as the 118TSI 1.8Turbo intake?

    Thanks for any help,

    Josh.

To my understanding, I thought there were just the two options from APR the one for a TSI and TFSI.
I dont think there is much of a difference between them in terms of size just the inlet shape differs.
I only have stage 1 (without the carbon fibre pipe), you'll have to check if there is a big difference in sizes if you opting for that option.

    Hope this helps.

there is only a difference in terms of the piping integration.

tfsi engine - notice most of the tubing is incorporated into the engine cover

tsi engine - notice the extra bit of tubing, taking it to the back of the engine and across.

Hey guys thanks for the info.

So pretty much if I order a Mk6 TSI carbonio then it will fit my 1.8 TSI. (so 1.8 and 2.0 TSI carbonio's are the same??)

Because if i order from the US site, i can get the stage I and II with all the bits shipped here for less than just the stage I from Aus.

bit of a no brainer really isn't it??

I thought APR in america wont ship to australia to keep customers going to the australian branch? Could be wrong.

I'd be careful about considering 1.8TSI the same as 2.0TSI carbonio's as no variation of the 118TSI is sold in the US (be it the 1.4 or 1.8 or as an Audi - they use the 2.0T or the 5-cyl 2.5). Double triple check before spending your hard earned .

i dont know i havent got that far to ask them yet. although i have a way around that so thats no problem.

The US website states that there is a 1.8TSI VW Carbonio intake.
and they also state that the 1.8 and 2.0TSI intake is the same.

How much are they going for in the us? I saw that they are 600+ here?

I'm trying to work out where an air filter fits in either of those intakes?

Call me dumb, but apart from bling factor, why would you fit this?

apparently this unit is sealed completely from the engine bay and is designed to reduce intake temperatures...i think there would be a small gain in performance, but would be more noticeable with a tune combined.

                        What he said!!

Um they are $299 for stage 1, and $199 for stage 2. (in US dollars so even cheaper when converted to AUD)

So really you can get stage 1 and 2, plus the bracketry and other filter shipped here for less than just the stage 1 from APR AUS.

time to pull the trigger then!!

Fair enough, it just looked exactly the same as the stock one, just with the carbon bits, so couldn't see how technically it was doing anything different.

The heat side of things is neglidgeable, but more so to do with airflow - the APR's use the stock air inlet as it is already in the best high pressure position to get optimal cold air into the airbox. The difference is that the APR allows the air to flow directly into the intake, where as the stock airbox, the airflow is directed down, then back up through the airfilter, then again at 90 degrees before reaching the same point the APR attaches to the intake. The other difference is the stock airbox intake doesn't allow the full air charge ( have a look at the front of the intake - you'll notice the mouth of the airbox intake only takes up half the ram duct ) to enter the box, where as the APR allows for some more.
Also the APR uses a fully enclosed pod filter which is "supposed" to offer better air flow but I'll let people decide that for themselves as there is many varied opinions on that.

The benefit of running an APR CAI is that it allows the Turbo to spool up quicker ( more noticeable on Turbo diesels ) , it "may" offer some economy increase with improved intake airflow, and you will notice a little more air intake noise/turbo spooling but nothing like the Open Pod Filters you find on some "ricer' type cars . And for anyone who has a diesel Skoda and likes the idea of fitting a provent, the APR Intake free's up a bunch of space that you can mount the Provent in.

I'm looking to buy one for my diesel RS.

Of note though Muggo, that the freight from the US on the APR site is approx $167 USD for just the Stage1, so with the current conversion rate and the fact the APR Australia have a 15% off these intakes this month that you effectively save yourself $50 if you buy from the US compared to an Aussie supplier. I haven't taken into account Freight for Aussie shipping though, but if you;re close to a dealer then there is no need to add it in. I would buy local just in case there is any fitting drama's for the sake of saving $50.
