  • Made some changes with VCDS today

Had a small muck around with VCDS (aka VagCom) today.
    • Hazard lights under hard braking enabled
    • Scandinavian daytime running lights enabled
    • DRLs dimmed from 92% back to 50% - will be changing this to 75% as I'm told lower than 70% reduces bulb life. Does anyone know anything about this?
    • Enabled foglights to act as cornering lights when turning.
    • Enabled foglights to act as cornering lights when indicator turned on.

Not sure what other tweaks are left. Any suggestions?

Finally someone whose actually done this! How can this be done Brad? What about the colour of the dials/interior lighting?

Just thought of the passenger mirror dipping when reversing too.

The sunroof and windows automatically closing in rain. Yes, that's truth the life of the globes is reduced when you dim them.

I set the passenger dip as well (I knew there was something else). Haven't tested it yet. VCDS says you need memory seats.

Didn't really look at interior lighting. Because mine is preFL I can't enable needle dance at start-up. You can enable various door handle lights once you physically fit the lights (ie: like they have in the L&K models).

I've had this cable since August last year (gift from a mate who gave up on VW) and not made changes - wasn't really sure what would happen. Still wasn't sure today but found a few guides on youtube. Some stuff was beyond me (changing the hexadecimal number rather than ticking a box), so I avoided that until I have a better understanding of what I am doing.

Rain closing windows were already enabled on my car.

Nope. 5-10 minute job. 3 settings?

My biggest problem is I don't like sitting with the ignition on...... & the laptop battery is on the way out & I'm scared it will die halfway through the process.

Ooh this thread has got me tempted to have a play around on my MY11 VRS. The cornering foglights and passenger dip sound handy.

Couple of questions, I know you can get cheap vagcom cables on ebay. Will these do the job and is there any particular model/connection type I need to look for?

Is doing this grounds for voiding factory warranty?

              Thanks in advance.

Get the 240 extension cord out, connect laptop to main power and connect the battery charger to the battery. Other things you can try; change the screens (color scheme) in Columbus radio with VCDS, fix the error in fuel gauge, adjust parking sensors distance for the tow bar, if you have one. You can also test the actuators (like horn. to see if the fault is in switch or horn) and so on.

I've got simultaneous adjustment working. Mirror dip still eludes me.

I tried a cheap $45 cable from dealextreme & it didn't work. Car is too modern.

                    Shouldn't void warranty AFAIK.

Yeah, couldn't be shagged getting the 240v out.

Oh, I hopefully corrected the error in the fuel consumption read-out. Actual was 6.6/6.7. readout was 6.4. New value was 103 instead of 100

Hey brad, the error could also be in the servo's pumps. I'm voiding some, since I get +12L/100 in my T5 from those that are usually 5c./L cheaper than others. (maybe they turn them to display quarts instead liters and save 54ml/L).

No, I'm working on long term averages rather than tank to tank. MFD2 shows 6.4, spreadsheet shows about 6.6. Closer than most MFD/real world readouts but if I can get it a fraction closer.....

I haven't noticed any huge difference between the servos I use.

                          Hey Brad,

Are there any guides out there how to do this?

And what equipment (hardware and software) do you need?

Would be keen to give this a go!

You need a VCDS cable from Rosstech. Then download the software from Rosstech. It appears the cable incorporates a dongle to fully enable the latest software, which is why the knock-offs don't work on later model cars.

There are guides & a Wicki at Rosstech but I had a look on youTube & also over at BriSkoda.

The cables aren't cheap. If you are near Carss Park (Hurstville-ish) and just need a few changes made, I can have a go.
