After 5 months of loving my RS, I feel kind of foolish for not knowing/realising this...

When you turn the sunroof dial around to open position, the sunroof opens but there still about a third of the glass still remaining in the opening - which I found to be pretty underwhelming after spending $1600 on this little add-on. Little did I know that if you turn the dial PAST the open position and hold it (which required quite a bit of force in my car) the entire sunroof slides back into the roof leaving me with an unobstructed view of the sky! Duh.

Duh indeed, all sunroofs have the comfort setting by default and the option to fully open them. Wish it was bigger though. I hope you didn't actually pay $1600 extra for it though....

I have found that the sunroof will develop an annoying harmonic rumble when it's open fully. I assumed that is why it defaulted to the 80% open setting. Mind you, that's in a Superb and I'm assuming it has the same sunroof.

Yep thats why they open to that amount by default. Usually they get the vibration around a certain speed....I find it around 30km/hr in the Octy and my previous car. Because you rarely drive at that speed its not really an issue.

Don't feel stupid, I'd had my car a week or two before I figured that out too.

I have also read this mystical book of which you speak. But the force which I had to apply to turn the switch past the stop point to 'position B' felt like I was going to break the switch. It had the same feeling as if you were to turn the headlight switch to the left, past the OFF position - not something you would try! It's a bit easier to turn now that I've done it a few times.

I just knew from my previous car that there is always a comfort setting to stop buffeting and then there is fully open. It was written on or near the dial from memory.

Just drop one of your rear windows about 60mm , no warren buffets

I wasn't going to throw that into the mix, I have small kids so that one is no longer an option....I get buffeting once in a blue moon, I saw it more with our Hollandia roof which was a lot bigger.

I suppose you dont eat Quiche either.
Personally i never read the destructions on most things - especially self assembly stuff and that is why i always end up taking twice as long to complete the job.

The reason why i had read the Owners Manual so much was due to the waiting before i got my hands on the vehicle. It was my only link to the vehicle i was getting.

It's the same on all vehicles. If you have air coming in you need to have somewhere for the air to go out otherwise you get the booming or buffeting effect.
That's the good thing about old style station wagons that have drop down rear windows.
