  • LED Rear Number Plate Lights

One of our rear numberplate lights is broken (which is okay, we aren't driving at night at the moment) and it wasn't replaced at the service, so I thought why not get some LED ones? Does anyone have any expertise at all with this? I have no idea what to buy let alone how to install them (although dad would probably know how to install). Thanks in advance

What would be the purpose? Do you want the light to be brighter so it makes it easier for speed cameras to photograph you at night?

Lol no, that would be the case if I lived in Victoria . Not that myself or my parents speed anyway, I just want them because they look good and an increasing number of new cars have them, so why not?

The problem with retrofitting LED's on cars with canbus that as as sophisticated as VAG products is that you need to get all the electronic gizmo thingies to make sure the canbus doesn't have a hissy fit when it gets the wrong responses back from the number plate bulbs. There was a thread a while ago about LED trailer lights and the issues they caused. I'm sure some electronic whizz will tell you what needs to be done.

BTW I thought I read somewhere recently that you guys were getting another 2000 "safety cameras" installed in NSW.

Fair enough, maybe I'll ask a few of the Tiguan owners, I know some of them did it - thank you .

And yeah I heard that too, but the Libs are (finally) in and are reviewing all of the current 'safety cameras'. Of course that means bugger-all, but at least it's not putting more out there (yet).

I have 37mm 6-SMD festoon bulbs with resistors in mine and it makes a huge difference, not only to the licence plate but also to the surrounding light for reversing.

Make sure you know what size the bulbs you need are and go on ebay, that is what i did

I am an MTEC automotive lighting retailer and sell the LED festoon lights with warning light cancel function. I've installed a set on my Polo Gti for rego lights and interior lights and works just fine. PM me if interested or visit www.eurospecmotorsport.com
I've got a set yet to be installed in the RS and hopefully can get the time to do it soon. Just have to pull my finger outta my backside. LOL.

Dave, do you have some to fit the front map lights for a Tiguan?
They aren't the festoon type, they are a wedge with a cylindrical base?

Does sound good, tell us how the RS goes. The interior lights would be good too as they're not the best... Only trouble for us would be installing but I assume that's easy?

From what i have read they are T4W (BA9s) bulbs.
They are the ones i found here (Blesk Error-Free T4W (BA9s) LED), however i want the SMD's to point towards the end of the bulb rather than shooting off to the side.
