  • 90TSI Rear Park Assist?...

So, my girlfriend just picked up her new Octavia 90TSI after test driving pretty much everything in the same category. All of those Corolla/i30/Cerato/Cruze etc. customers really need to drive an Octavia 90TSI, for $31K drive away (once you spec the Zenith 17" alloys and rear spoiler) this car completely destroys the others in the segment. Anyway every Skoda owner is already aware of this.
The problem I have is to do with an accessory we requested on the car.
I have front and rear parking sensors on my RS and they look and function brilliantly. We paid $600 for "Genuine Skoda" rear park assist sensors on the 90TSI and if what we got is a genuine Skoda product, I'll eat my RS.
Trivett have drilled four holes in the rear bumper and have glued in four sensors, which they painted to match the car apparently. The fact that there is dried glue squished around each sensor is a problem, but not the main problem. After getting home and putting the car in reverse we discovered a red flashing light attached to an ugly little grey speaker double sided taped to the interior roof panel with a wire running through a gap in the roof lining. This was not what I was expecting, or what I requested. We paid $600 for a $20 SuperCheap parking kit? You have to be kidding me...
When we purchased the car I made sure there existed a genuine Skoda kit that would integrate with the standard SWING radio. I even asked the salesman (who in standard Skoda AUSTRALIA form, had no idea what century it was, nor what accessories were available for each vehicle).
After just one day the sticky tape has given up sticking to the roof and the speaker and light are just hanging from the wire they are attached to near the rear window... Not to mention you pretty much need to reverse THROUGH the wall before the thing starts flashing and making it's screeching noise.
Please tell me that I am correct in thinking this is not a Skoda accessory? Does anyone else have a SWING stereo with integrated rear park assist? Just need some ammo/advice before I give the poor salesman a sore ear...

"factory fitted" vs "genuine skoda" is not always the same.
in the case of the PDCs, "genuine skoda" = dealer fit.

though i must say - the red light grey speaker thingy stuck on the interior roof panel is shocking!!! fark me!!
    as u said, u didn't pay for a $20 supercheap kit!!!!!

there is nothing "genuine" about that - i'd take it back and ask them to properly get it wired.

when i was ordering my rs - i knew the rear pdc were std, so asked if i can fit the front pdc at a later time. dealer told yup, but it won't b integrated with the columbus/bolero. i.e. - i won't get the visual display come up.
unless its factory fitted, then only will there b full integration with display.

i don't know if the same applies for the octavia 90tsi.

I doubt whether there is any genuine factory parking kit available in Australia. Did you see it listed on the Australian site or an overseas one?
I really think that this is something you should be taking up directly with the dealer first rather than in public.

Nothing wrong in gathering information before presenting it to the dealer. It sounds like it was a sloppy job and is a warning to others who may be considering same.

transporter. that has been taken down. Is this the same one?

To the OP. I can only imagine how dissapointed you must feel. I'd take it up with the dealer ASAP.

I second that one. Very often complaining politely achieves more than giving someone "a sore ear...".

As I said, just wanting some information from anyone who may know if it's available. I do not trust the dealer to give me credible information, as I had to practically hold his hand through the entire sales process and the ordering of the alloy wheels.

The Aus-spec accessories brochure has been posted on Skoda Aus and it's NOT the overseas one, rear sensors are in there.

                    Pictures?

The dealer who you are complaining about reads this site and participates from time to time. From a negotiation point of view you have probably weakened your hand. That is what I was referring to.

Apparently it IS a Skoda accessory system. They are going to use stronger sticky tape to stick it to the roof... This accessory must be the single carry-over from the Soviet days!

After all this, I strongly advise AGAINST optioning the Rear Park Assist accessory, unless it's factory fitted...

Finally, my hand is still nice and strong, thanks KIWI.

I guess that's somewhat disappointing then but maybe a warning to future buyers to make sure they know 100% what they are getting.
