  • Why Octavia?

Dumb question, why are they called Octavia? Because they are the eighth.........?

The Škoda Octavia is a small family car produced by Czech automaker Škoda Auto since 1996, its name revived from a model originally produced between 1959 and 1971. The current Octavia is available in five-door liftback and station wagon.

Wherever you go, there you are. Thanks for that, but why was the original one called an Octavia?

Why is any vehicle called what it is? Mondeo?, 911?, S Class?, Fairlady? Corolla, DB9?

I just found another forum which stated that the 1959 Octavia was the eighth model produced by Skoda - seems to make sense to me?

Octavia is I think the daughter of one of the julio claudians, Augustus Caesar, Octavius to his friends. (think Julius Caesar's successor) Perhaps they were trying to conjur up visions of empirical nature (or they really enjoyed the movie Calligula - didn't we all!).

Forgive me if I'm wrong, it might have been the daughter of Tiberius, Tacitus and year 12 history are long in the mirror...
