Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • He called my Skoda a Commodore!

Got a puncture the other day, a nail, and as it was the long weekend no tyre places were open. therefore I tried using sealant but of course it didn't work proerly but at least enough so that I could pump the tyre up daily. Didn't want to use the space saver as I travel to work on the freeway and not at 80km/hr!

Anyways, eventually got to the local tyre shop and after discussing the pros and cons (mostly cons) of repairing I decided to replace the 2 rears. He asked which car and I pointed outside. "Oh the commodore", Aaargh no its a Skoda! At least he did apologise.

Anyone else get their car mistaken for another brand?

Someone I once took in my car later called it a BMW - I guess that's better than a lot of things people could think it is!

Most people don't have a clue about the Bora model and think it's a Passat.

I was sitting down the strand in the Polo drinking my morning coffee and some little kid (about 5yrs) points at the car and yells out "Herbie".....great brand awareness kid...you just need to work on your model identification.....

That would have made anyone sad lol.

A few mates commented on how the Skoda Octavia RS has lines like a BMW....but I'ld be offended if someone called it a commodore

When I first got my RS in Jan 2008, it was mistaken for an Alfa twice, an Audi 3 or 4 times, a BMW twice and a "what the **** is that" more times than I can remember. Unfortunately it's also been mistaken for a taxi-I had a bloke try to flag me down once. Next one wont be yellow!

If we didn't have a diesel Roomster we'd have a Hyundai i30 wagon CRDi. Not a lot in it.

Never heard that it looks like a Commodore!
Been asked if it is a Alfa (once) or BMW (several times).
Got many comments how stylish it looks.

I got a " when did you get the sportswagon?" when we first got our car and many people just wanted to know what it was.

The Hyundai is that good or the Skoda is that ordinary?

I haven't driven the very latest round of Hyundais but the ones I drove around 2 years ago were very good cars. The i30 is an excellent car.

Had a look at one of the new hyundais before we decided to buy the skoda, they are definitly alot better than they used to be! Personally, I felt the quality and looks of the skoda won hands down.
