Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Seriously that sounds more like a Firewall issue. Are you on a work network or at home and if you are at home how strict are your firewall settings?
Try this direct link to the online version which doesnt require any plugins. Destination Skoda 2 - Digital Edition

I have never seen an "operation aborted" message for a simple DNS resolution issue. The fact the the message says "cannot access" rather than "cannot locate" also indicates to me that it's unlikely to be a DNS issue.
When I deliberately typed in a dud address into IE8 I got "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" nothing about operation aborted or cannot access.
This may not be a firewall problem but it's definitely not a simple DNS issue either.

Hey looks like we are both wrong.. its an IE trust issue with a component on the web site in question..
Official MS fix for this is Why do I receive an "Operation aborted" error message when I visit a Web page in Internet Explorer?
