Only 6 months warranty left , insurance ,they will never know , why tell .

I did it to my gti mk1V bigger jump from 110kw to 144kw , that was a very detuned motor in std dress.

Power deliver is very smooth and gutsy from 2200rpm , can cruise the suburbs in 5th now , much more relaxed driving .

Punch out of corners in the countryside is amazing , wait 12 months and do it , feels like you got a new car .

I think anyone saying the insurance company won't know is trying to claim they can dodge a bullet.
You do know insurance companies read these threads right. Your just making yourself a prime target for insurance fraud if you are found to have illegal or non-approved power increases.
If you want to make it all good, then get it engineered and tell the insurance company.

Remember the insurance companies love to find fault and walk away with your money.

Yep, if you don't tell them, you are pretty much handing them a premium without them owing you anything. They will try and use anything to deny the claim. Even if its unrelated, you have not held up your part in the agreement, so the whole thing is null and void.

As long as you tell them, i can't agree more, but it usually will cost you more to insure. I'm not saying don't do it, just do it right!

Actually I don't know a single customer that had an increased premium with extra engine mods, even through to Stage 3 set ups. I have seen premiums change with wheels & body kits though. Anyway, It's only a phone call away for your local insurance company!

Last time I checked the Allianz website and tried to enter modifications, a message was displayed saying they don't insure with modifications.

insurance - i plan on telling them.

being a new car, i don't want to void the manufacturer/dealer warranty.
though i've heard over in skoda nz, dealers offer ecu upgrades (stg 1) with their new car sales?!?!
would b nice if the same was offered with skoda oz dealers.

I rang Allianz & yes, they do modification, it depends on what it is & the insured's history, but you can not do it on the website. No problem to do a Skoda with Stage 3, suspension, wheels, diff at all apparently (as long as they are legal mods which they are)

NZ is a different situation to AUS. VW AUS are owned by VAG - in NZ, VW / AUDI / SKODA are imported by EMD (European Motor Distributors) so they are a little more "flexible" in what they can offer on the showroom floor!

My GIO insurance went up by $5 a month with the Superchips reflash. Great value for the extra kw and nm s. Feels like a totaly differant car too.

Also did you know the factory warranty on any VAG car in Australia is 2yrs, the extra year and or/unlimited kms is covered by VAG australia. And also why the extra 2 yrs extension is so pricey, for a Mazda or Honda its about $600 for 5 yr factory warranty, but VAG don't cover anything beyond 2 yrs. Shows how much faith they have in their own tech really.
