Buying a new car is important financial decision and you should consider all running costs that you will have during the ownership, like registration, insurance, cost of fuel and maintenance and servicing; before you commit to buy.


The service costs in this thread are approximate. Different workshops, especially in the remote areas may have higher running costs. Shop around and consider using independent VW, Skoda, Audi specialist, if you want to save money, but remember that using approved parts is crucial for maintaining your new car warranty.


Service costs (as for the models with TSI engines, the cost of servicing is similar)
1.9TDI – 2.0L TDI with DSG/Auto Golf, Jetta, Passat, Skoda, Tiguan

15,000km or 1 Year (whichever comes first)
Time: 1 hour
Cost: $180 - $260


30,000km or 2 Years (whichever comes first)
Time: 3 hours
Cost: $460 - $620


60,000km or 4 Years (whichever comes first)
Time: 3 hours
Cost: $920-$1100

Had my 60,000km done yesterday at Camden GTI in Campbelltown.
Basically a Service (oil/filter/fluids & various checks) plus a fuel filter. I also had them supply a new pollen filter because my dog ate the old one

I'm not sure which 504/507 oil they use but the usual EA888 start-up rattle was absent - it will be interesting to see how long that lasts for.

All up $353 which is a lot better than the $630-$950 quotes I was receiving from the dealers.
Admittedly, dealer quotes were higher because they wanted to do work that didn't need doing yet, eg: spark plugs - not until 90k; brake fluid which was done 09/09 & will get done at the 75k service in 05/11; tyre rotation (just had new tyres).

Not sure on where your getting your quotes from but I just booked my RS in with richmond Skoda and there quoting me $380 for the 15,000 service...

I was going to say something but didn't. I think the prices are VW, theoretically we should be paying less or the same at worst. Reality is that dealers are pulling it out of their behind, and Richmond think its reasonable because its cheaper than what the Audis cost.

Minor at richmond is $360, major is $560, brake fluid (every 2 yrs) is another $150 and timing belts are being done there at 4 yrs or 90k whichever is first at the grand sum of around $1200. 60k service is $800 there as well, so if are like me with your servicing, the 4yr/60k mark is a killer. I'm still trying to get ahold of Skoda HQ to see why, do Gtis have that same schedule for the belt?

I can only suggest that you shop around and also consider using independent VW, Skoda specialists. Servicing shouldn't cost that much, at least not at 15,000 or 30,000km. Genuine parts aren't very expensive, so definitely shop around.

Problem is that Skoda are more pedantic about servicing, Richmond Audi/Skoda were complaining when they first opened about the equipment that was coming from CR as they wouldn't let them use the Audi stuff. The first service I had, they handed me a copy of the checklist, it was entirely different and more thorough than whats in the service manual and he said Audi didn't make them do it either. Since then they don't give out the copy anymore, but I'm sure they could give it to you.

Problem is that there are very few Skoda specialists, even VW specialist mechanics are not quite up there, and most don't know or want to touch them. When I bought the Skoda a bit over 2 yrs ago, VW service centres were all supposed to be trained up etc, now they are only mentioning a select few who will do it, so obviously that changed as well. If there was a little more competition from dealers and they knew people had to use them, prices would come down.

I rang Skoda HQ to see what the official line about servicing etc is and have not had a reply at all.

Paid a total 486 for a 15000km at Trivett Parramatta. They had only been open 1 month, and were in a bit of disarray. Seems that the Pugeot guys are handling.

Service = 270 (got the guy to knock off 1/2hr when I showed him the wifes invoice for her Golf VI 118TSI - same service was charged at 212.5, apparently down to the length of time and rate that Skoda list - bit cheeky if you ask me - anyway at least he came down a bit)

Oil = 115 (Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30) - seems a bit steep to me?

Oil charge there is way excessive; I paid $77 for 6lt of Castrol Edge

I got my interim service done before xmas.

I supplied oil (5W-30 Castrol Edge for $51.50 after RACQ 10% discount at Repco), genuine oil filter from VW( $27.30 as I get a trade price - about 20% less) and the labour was $83.50 (including $3.50 for a sump plug) at Mike Webber.

Pretty reasonable me thinks.......

105000 service - camshaft replacement, wtf?

Hi all, I'm about to get my 105,000 service and the dealer told me it would be over $1000 because they have to replace the camshaft as part of the standard VW service for the jetta. It sounded like crap to me - what's been your experience?

Getting our late 2008 man Petrol RS done for the 105 service based on time rather than kms as its only just shy of 70k but is 7 yrs old.

The fixed price including a new water pump which must have been added in at some point recently is $1600. Used to be way more than that at my dealer. They have found though that the rear brake discs and pads need replacing....its at 69,000km and is manual. Not sure if that is normal, but I have never really had to replace them under 90,000 in any car from new. Could be that they are softer I guess. The weird thing is that the front set have never been done and apparently have heaps left on them. My memory from a year ago (8,000km ago) that both sets had heaps left on them. So have the service manager taking a look at why the rears wore faster?

Its a 2008 pre FL Mk2 sedan/hatch RS (petrol) manual.

Rears will wear faster if you tend to brake lightly as the rear brake comes on first.

You might wish to check the handbrake ribbon on the centre console hasn't broken & jammed & is holding the handbrake on slightly

We do tend to brake lightly. The gator has been dodgy for ages on the handbrake as they all tend to be, but still seems to be letting go properly. It's just stiff. They promised me years back if the brakes need doing when the big service came up that they would do them free of charge. Unfortunately the service manager who started there when I first bought mysteriously left recently and was the only one who knew this. So not real happy with them today.
