Congrats on getting the car! I've been away from the forums for a while now. Been rather busy at work. Even my car is filthy dirty and haven't had a chance to do anything to it.

Hmm, Derek on holidays. That's gonna be a pain. I don't know of anyone else, but if you are adventurous, you can do it yourself. Instructions are available, and I'm guessing you will have a spare mic as it should already be plugged in and installed, cable should already be connected at the back of the stereo.

    Good luck with the install!

Yeah was thinking of having a go, although the rear camera kit might be a bit of a mission. I have seen instructions somewhere before, anywhere i should hunt around for them?

All good so far. Just clicked over 2k so can now give it a little. It does feel SLOW compared to the tinkered xr5. Ill slowly fix that though.

I really need to get the springs etc in ASAP as i reckon it looks a bit like a 4x4 as is.

Pics from xmas break, i gave the car a good clean / glaze / sealant / wax. Came up mint. The poorboys diamond white glaze made the car paint feel like it was covered with butter.

what springs are you putting in?? How much will it drop it??

Of note - I just had a 4 wheel alignment done and on the report it noted the rear suspension is about 2cm lower then the front. I hope the front still needs to settle ( but doubt it with now 20K kms on it now), but the rears have due to carrying some big loads in the back. If not I think I might have to look at getting a lowering kit at some stage, or simply getting the front springs reset to match the rear height.

You know what's funny is that when i picked up my RS ( In Aug 09) I looked at getting that exact set of plates as you now have on yours - but never got around to it. Looks like I missed the boat there.........

Eibach's. Should drop the car 20mm all round. I agree the front looks a little higher than the rear. Ill see if it looks right once dropped. I hope so.

I had a few options for the plate, was a bit of a last minute thing. Happy i did it and glad the white euro plates are full size at front. Works well with big grill i reckon.

Finally got some tinkering done. Springs and some other bits and pieces in.

Did have an issue with the rear brake pads. The pads do not fit. They are the ones specified for and RS / GTI although my car has something different? I checked against a GTI and they are the right ones for that. I thought the brakes on our cars were identical? Every website agrees as well. Ill put a post in the wheel/suspension thread to see if i can find out that going on.

That's my mothers house in Port Stephens. Tanilba House. Built by convicts in 1831! Been in our family over 50 years.

Have now found out all MY11 RS Octavias and Golf GTI's now have different rear calipers and pads. Don't think any aftermarket pads are available yet in the new shape.

After a week of the new springs i am very happy. Only slightly firmer than stock and feels a little better in the turns. Not to low that it scrapes though. Best of both worlds.

Eibach's say 20mm. Looks like it may have settled a couple of extra mm down though.

Managed to get on and off the car ferry at wisemans without scraping on the weekend. All good.

Also dru, thanks for the offer. I already have a missus though ha ha.

I know this might sound crazy, but I like the high ride. Haven't scraped the nose yet...

It does look good chopped down a little though
