Slightly OT, but i can't seem to find that in "my profile" - is this a pay for prem membership site? Happy to do so due to the amount of knowledge gained already!

Back OT so since its the 2L TSI engine......does it still need the downpipe and cat? or just the cat? I'd like it as stealth as possible, so just the cat would be great. I don't want to affect (greatly) reliability though as this is now my main family car. (other car is a Honda Jazz)

EDIT: after much bumbling on my part, have found the relevant section to edit!

Yeah, Sorry again, it's under settings isn't it.

Was just looking to see if there's and dowpipes off the shelf for your car but not found one yet.

I would not go Stage 2 or beyond with Bluefin or any of the other handheld devices. Once you get beyond a basic remap, there are too many variables that a "one size fits all" remap can't cover.

IMO, once you start doing intakes & exhaust, you have to pay a bit more, get some dyno time & tailor the map to suit.

It's ok....these aren't really the sort of cars that lend well to high power (i.e. FWD). If I wanted lots of power, I would have kept my v8 calais or, I can just jump on my gsxr1000. I just want a bit more than stock and to pep it up a bit. I feel pretty confident the bluefin will deliver that After all, its my family car that I drive my son around in, so can't get up to too much mischief.

Stage1 tune is a remap for a factory stock engine. Superchips know exactly what they are dealing with. Once you start introducing your own mods, they are just guessing what the maps should be. Somewhere on golfMKV there was a guy from UAE that was trying to get his Bluefin stage2 to work with his mods..... it was never right.

Even the stage 1 remap is expecting 100ron & reasonably cool weather due to Superchips being in Windsor (IIRC) - so in AUS, the engine management has to wind parameters back a fraction to compensate.

Anyway, fill yer boots. Just trying to save you a bit of pain.

Thanks. Definately not trying to go all out mods on this, just wanted it a bit peppier for a reasonable price. All the aussie feedback ive had on stage 1 bluefin has been very positive so I'll see how I go.

i love my stage1 bluefin. just wouldn't take a "one size fits all" map any further.

If someone wanted to put CAI & free up the exhaust a little on the RS TDI Cr170 motor, what chip/re-flash/ECU would you suggest Brad??

My manager has been running Bluefin (stage 1) with a CAI and Miltech exhaust in a Mk V GTi with DSG for approx 2 years now.

He's had no issues and the car goes like the bat outta hell. He got a 10% improvement in fuel economy when he put the CAI on to.

                    Cheers

buggered if I know - wasn't intending going down that path & didn't research it.

I'd probably look for a defined upgrade path similar to what APR / Oettinger offer or somebody that can run your car on the dyno & customise the maps.

When I had the Subaru, MRT (who I have a low regard for) offered a structured upgrade path (XA,XB,XC kits) for Subarus. There was also a guy at Menai that could get into the ECUs and weave some magic while running the car on the dyno.

At a minimum, I think that if you did intake/exhaust mods with a generic map, then you'd want to make sure the mixtures weren't running too lean, the boost wasn't OTT & the exhaust gas temps weren't OTT - so a bit of VCDS logging might be useful.

Which CAI? Did it introduce a lot of induction noise?

Does anyone know when the OBD port became blocked? I have an 6/09 build TDI superb I want to put a tune into and I would like to buy a Bluefin rather than pull the ECU out and send it away if I can.

Had the APR stage 1 fitted today ,quoted $1695 , but sale on in december at $1440 , very nice indeed .

Only sububan drive so far , but much more torks , feels more relaxed , with the urgency there when you push on from 2200rpm .

Going to have to be carefull with tyres as you feel it gripping hard .

Cant wait to hit the rural B roads .
