Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Headlight Skins?

So what does everyone here do for headlight protection? I would like to find a set of headlight skins (clear vinyl/plastic) to put over the headlights as those hard plastic ones look horrid.

Any directions or suggestions would be good!

You know, I used to use them in the 80s but since they became virtually bulletproof there is no point anymore. I know some friends who worked at Mazda hq used to joke about people who bought their headlight protectors as they are redundant. Not needed any more really!

I've got headlamp protectors on mine, simply because they came with the car as a freebie. They also make no difference to the car's aesthetics either.

The polycarbonate headlights might be a lot harder to break than the old glass ones, but they still get sandblasted by all the grit coming off the road, hence headlight protectors are still a good way to keep the lights looking new.
