  • Looking at getting Octavia RS!

    Hi everyone,

    The missus and I are looking at ordering in a:
    * Octavia vRS 2010
    * Race Blue
    * Manual TFSI
    * Sat Nav Columbus Std.

    Should be ordering it in the next few months, once our finances are sweet to go! The main reason I wanted to post a new topic up was to find out a few little things about the Octavias regarding the seats. Our main concern is the Alcantara seats, they feel great to sit in and breath really well but we think they look like they might wear too easy and since we want to keep this car for a long time, would we be better off opting for leather and paying the extra 1.5k?

    Other than that, they are such a nice car. A friend of mine just picked up his Octavia RS with DSG + TDI for 37k driveaway! Absolutely beautiful car to drive, but after taking the TFSI + Manual for a drive, I am sold! So I should be lurking around here for a while yet! Oh and lastly, whats the average waiting time for an Octavia to get here - a salesmen told us about 4months but I have heard 5-6?

    Thanks!
    Andrew.

    I had that concern when I bought my RS two and a bit years ago (when that was the only seat option) and to be honest only the black mesh has gotten a little furry. The seats are still absolutely fabulous! But I would get the optional leather, looks so much better! Good luck with the buy though, I don't think you'll regret it!

      Thanks Jake for the reply.

      We actually preferred without the leather, has a sportier look to us - but the leather does look classy!

      A few more questions while I am at it...How do you find the depreciation on Skodas? It doesn't matter too much since we plan on keeping the car for so long but it would be nice to know it doesn't depreciate like a falcon!

      To be honest, I don't think I can find a car though that has as many features and creature comforts standard as the Skoda for that price...and I thought the TFSI wasn't going to be much fun - boy I was wrong

        Ive just sold my RS after nearly 3 years of wear, and the seats still looked like new, i don't see this as an issue.

          They hate Velcro. If you have any trousers with back pockets that close with Velvro (or hook and loop tape to be non brand specific) be very careful.

            Four months is probably closer for most people than 5 or 6 but it can vary. Try not and have a car on order during the European summer holidays (August/September) and bug the dealer to make sure they put the order into Skoda as soon as you pay your deposit rather than a week or two later.

                Best of luck and congrats! If you are ordering in the next few months, it'll be the MY2011 model rather than the MY2010 model.

                I went the leather seats too. (Although like all VAG cars, it's not totally all leather. The more used part are hardier, fake leather)

                I waited about 6 months for mine, but mine was a custom order, and it had the January holiday for the Czech factory to contend with. If the dealers have a car to your spec and don't have to order, it'll be very quick.

                I love my RS (TSI and DSG). Went for a drive with some friends (primarily in GTIs and R32s) on Sunday, and it was brilliant!.

                  The "full" leather bits that they get you to pay for are actually vinyl, it's a bit crappy to be honest that they charge more for it, rather than just have a choice, but because it is a deviation I can understand as well.

                  The alcantara is very hardy and is used for a reason. The black mesh as well (it holds onto you more), but it can get fluff stuck into it or get a bit furry. I think mine has recently started showing signs (at 2 yrs) due to the little lint strips on vacuum heads catching it while trying to suck the fluff out.

                    Great choice, definitely one of the best cars in the price bracket & after walking around the Sydney Motor Show last night, I didn't find anything else to change my mind about my RS purchase!

                    4 months is around the time I have waited. I ordered mid July and my car is currently on its way for an arrival date in Sydney on the 1st of November.

                    I also chose leather as I felt the same way about the wearing of the white fabric. I also saw an RS with full leather trim at the dealer when I purchased my car and thought it looked a bit more up-market than the standard cloth seats.
                    Glad I chose this option too, as the RS I sat in at the motor show yesterday had just standard trim and the white cloth was already starting to look a bit grubby from all the Tom, **** and Harrys sitting in the drivers seat - and that's only three days into the show!

                    Good luck with your new purchase.

                      Three days in the life of a car show car is equal to about twenty years of the worst possible private ownership.
                      I don't know of a single private car that has hundreds or possibly thousands of kids a day all with ice cream and sweet covered hands climbng in and out.

                        Great cars - i am on my second estate (wagon). I owned one in Edinburgh and when I came to Brisbane got another. Three of my mates have purchased on the back of my car and there is a fourth who is currently swithering being a Volvo man and feeling the need to pay 30k more to get a barge.

                        as for the seats I treated mine with a quality fabric ptotector from Autobarn and no issues so far (six months and 10,000 kms in).

                        If you think the current Octavia RS seats are prone to stains you should see the seats in the previous Fabia RS (sadly never available here)

                        or the previous Octavia RS which was a nightmare!!

                          If I had my time again, I'd go for the "full" leather option. I might be wrong but the seat upgrade also gives you electric seat adjustment with presets.

                          From experience, I can confirm that spilling "100's and 1000's" on the seats is a nightmare...

                              Go for it, you won't be disappointed. Sounds like the dealers are still giving good deals!

                              For me the leather was a toss up between seat grip and knowing how grubby I am Getting into it after a day of sliding around the cricket or soccer field would have just created work for me.
