Looks like the premium will be nearly 50k on road. Glad I got the current model with a hefty discount, though the CR Diesel and DSG are definite advantages.

I hope the Yeti with similar specs is at least 5K cheaper.

So I'm guessing the Scout Premium is aimed directly at Subaru's Outback Diesel Premium (and like the normal Scout it'll be $500-ish cheaper)? Seems like a good idea I guess, coupling those options at a slightly discounted price. Are they doing this with the rest of the range? Obviously you can't on an Octavia 90TSI, but a Premium pack with those goodies (plus xenons and 17s) as a $4-5k more next tier model (like Accord Euro Luxury and Mazda6 Luxury) I think would do well here. It'd also add some sort of differentiation to normal Octavias. Superbs, well I don't think they really need it!

The car I would have purchased if it had been available 18 months ago.

OR 6 month ago, not that I would regret buying Tiguan.

Looking forward to the Superb, but I have to agree that the described Premium spec DSG Scout would have won us if it was available at the time.

Although based on current lead times you'd have to order one now for delivery by next Xmas...

Judging by the launch date, if you ordered one now, you will get it around the launch time. It looks like it is coming out at the tail end of production. I'm wondering myself whether some crappy lead times with the Superb wagon recently were due to them ordering a tonne for the cycling which got in front of all the other orders, or where they all Octys? (I didn't see it).

Put two and two together and get 18.

The projected ETA is about the same time as the Yeti is due and the reason for going to the 103CR engine will be to rationalise the engine and drive configurations so that the new Scouts and the diesel Yetis are essentially the same from a maintenance and parts point of view.

That's some great kit. We're looking for a mid size 4x4 for a family of 4 and really like the Scout. Didn't buy due to lack of auto option but haven't bought anything else yet so a March wait is doable.

                    Any liks/pics available?

So what's the difference between the "old" dp-diesel and the new common rail version. (Please don't say the injection system!) I would have expected more power and torque, yet the figures are identical. ??

Modern diesels owe their resurgence in popularity to advances in fuel delivery and engine management systems that allow the engines to return power, performance and emissions equivalent to their gasoline counterparts, while simultaneously producing superior fuel economy.

It's the high pressure fuel rail and the computer controlled electronic injectors that make all the difference. In the common rail system, the fuel pump charges the fuel rail at a pressure of up to 25,000 psi--but unlike indirect injection pumps--it is not involved in fuel discharge. Under the control of the onboard computer, this fuel quantity and pressure accumulates in the rail independently of engine speed and load.

Each fuel injector is mounted directly above the piston within the cylinder head (there is no pre-chamber) and is connected to the fuel rail by rigid steel lines that can withstand the high pressure. This high pressure allows for a very fine injector orifice that completely atomizes the fuel and precludes the need for a pre-chamber. The actuation of the injectors comes via a stack of piezo electric crystal wafers that move the jet needle in tiny increments allowing for the spray of fuel. Piezo crystals function by expanding rapidly when an electric charge is applied to them. Like the fuel pump, the injectors are also controlled by the the engine computer and can be fired in rapid succession several times during the injection cycle. With this precise control over injector firings, smaller, staggered quantities of fuel delivery (5 or more) can be timed over the course of the power stroke to promote complete and accurate combustion. In addition to timing control, the short duration, high pressure injections allow a finer and more accurate spray pattern that also supports better and more complete atomization and combustion.

Through these developments and improvements, the modern common rail direct injection diesel engine is quieter, more fuel efficient, cleaner, and more powerful than the indirect mechanical injection units they have replaced.

From a sales point of view to Joe public that is probably the single biggest improvement. No more clack, clack I'm a diesel as you drive into a friends drive.
A mate of mine who is dyed in the wool petrol head (V8's and turbos for the last 20 years) has just brought himself an A4 DSG with the 103CR engine and he absolutely loves it. He's told me for years I'm stupid driving diesels then he came back from a drive to central Vic the other day telling me how great the overtaking was at 120+ plus was on his new car. I think going two weeks before his first fuel top up had a lot to do with his change of heart as well.
